Thanks for the turorial! For some reason I can’t sing this song without crying a little.... 😍
I wish you had gone into more detail about the different time signatures, the measure of 5 at the beginning of the verses took me a while to figure out, otherwise excellent teaching!
Cheers to you Eric for talking about the different time signatures!
Hey rockstars!! Check out my free online course at: www.yourguitarsage.com/30
The C chord in the song is a C Major which is the standard C chord with the addition of the low E (6th string) played at the 3rd fret. This is how Roger plays it live and on the original Wall recording.

That’s also known as “the big C”. No one will ever kick you out of the band for playing big C. That’s what an old guitar instructor told me many years ago.
Great song, great lesson! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!
Cozy and warm, healthy and clean, different parts of the song, good job on the guitar part though!👍
Timing commentary is great, that helped me.
Man! Great lesson Erich. Please do one on the solo. I’ve always wanted to learn how to play it as well. Thanks 🙏
The solo on this song is one of my favorites alongside all the other greats. Oh please do a lesson on that as well. Thanks Erich!

Thanks , truly appreciate your time and professionalism. So far and by far the best guitar teacher on-line. As a relatively new student to guitar, your style of teaching make it a pleasure to enjoy my guitars even more.

Patrick Bergeron You are so very welcome and that was a very kind comment! Thank you and rock on! e :)
Another great lesson. Pink Floyd is my favorite group. I have not been playing guitar for long but have played piano for many years.I would just like to comment on the time signature, mother starts of in 5/8 time for 1 measure then changes to 8/8 time and then changes several more times after that as do most of their songs. In mother they use 5/8 8/8 6/8 12/8 and 9/8 time signatures. So if people are having problems with the beat, like you said the best way to get it right is to play along to the album. Thanks again

WOW….that sure was a bit of a surprise to hear you say Pink Floyd is one of your favorites along with RADIOHEAD and BEATLES, which are my very top 2 bands and Pink Floyd is somewhere in top 10 probably. And you've only taught Karma Police, which I learned from you 5 years ago. You should check out WarrenLain's Radiohead guitar tutorials and then start teaching some more Radiohead songs that he has not already taught. Thanks for all the great lessons, Erich!

Is there a "part 2" coming with the solo??
@yourguitarsage
8 жыл бұрын
Not one planned, but I will put it on the long list. Love that solo!
This is the only video I have seen of this song with a good concept of dynamics. With such a simple progression, dynamics and subtle variation in the strum are the whole thing. And those dynamics have to match what is happening vocally. I have seen a few other video with a very nice and professional rendering of the strumming, but they are static, without nuances and stiff like wood. Funny the ones Im talking about have gotten more hits than this. Nice job here.

yourguitarsage There is one provider of guitar lessons who pretty much cleaning up in terms of hits and subscribers. He plays tons of songs more or less correctly. But He doesn't hits individual notes with tone or conviction, does hit chords cleanly or on the beat and has little sense of phrasing, groove or dynamics. But everyone loves him. I don't get it. Im sure you can guess who Im talking about.

Ahhhh, yall are both good at teaching. I've learned quite a bit from all of you guys(that British guy too). I think the other comments are right on the mark though in terms of dynamics and nuances . But I've found that each of you has something unique to offer and all are great teachers and make learning this painful instrument fun. I've also found it very beneficial to use multiple teachers/videos to enhance my learning and that is why I don't mind supporting each of you by either donation(which I naturally feel obligated to do if I learn one tiny nugget) or by purchasing your material. Its hard for me to say any of you are better than the other in terms of technique....i'm sure there some other diamonds out there in KZread land that just haven't had the exposure(number of views/likes) as these guys and therefore don't pop up on the top search results , but with no doubt you(Eric), Marty and Andy are on my top list of lesson providers/instructors etc. I do dig around looking for others though because I think everyone has something special and unique to add.
Picking pattern?
Can anyone help me with strumming pattern?
