    awesome lesson! pink floyd was my second obsession (stones, then floyd, then zeppelin) the solo from this song is heart-wrenching. just about half a minute, but it was the first electric solo i learned note for note, tone, feel, and all. I HAD to learn it. I felt 30 seconds of raw emotion that echoed in my head and begged to be played was worth the effort. my weakness is rhythm playing. my strum pattern is predictable. thanks for posting. must say, although I find myself searching out rare live zeppelin often, floyd have the most moving solos...Time, Mother, the opening to Coming Back to Life, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Have A Cigar (that bit at the very end where it whooshes down to sound like its coming from a small radio gets me every time...and I hate when radio stations cut it)

    Excellent tutorial on what is indeed a difficult pattern albeit fairly simple chord progression. Question- I’ve seen Roger play this a few times and he adds the G (low E string 3rd fret) to the C chord and gives it a fuller sound.. Thoughts? Thanks again for an excellent lesson on this wonderful PF song.

    Thank you for all this great work! Just one thing, why should the second measure in the verse be 3/8? It fits well and grooves in 4/4 when the rhythm section comes in.

  • @mikehastings5809

    @mikehastings5809

    5 жыл бұрын

    As a drummer I would count it as 4/4 through the verse all except for the first two times "mother do ya think" which are the 5/8 as you mentioned. And then 1 measure of 6/8 for "..ah mother should I build a - wall.. kind of foreshadows the chorus which I count 6/8 starting at "cry" and with one longer 6/9 for ending of measure with "cozy and warm" = 7 8 9. A different approach.. it locks in with the back beat.

    It's hard to see when you keep a constant in your strumming to hold the rhythm. I struggle so bad with strum patterns too. Gotta listen for the low or high notes coming first with each strum. Sounds good in theory but the skill eludes me still haha
