Correction; if you are reduced to exactly 0 HP you then become "broken" and roll that d4 to see what happens. If you are reduced below 0 HP, you die. Straight up.

I always thought this was a typo. Otherwise, you'd only get to roll on the broken table when you 'precisely hit zero', which seems less interesting.

@@VILLIANx2 nice, the random tables do make it interesting for me to start my own, I was going to start rotblack sludge today as an intro for my group. But they're a bit flakey so I could end up with 3 or 5 players and wondered how many enemies or how tough enemies you would throw at 7 players for their first session.

Mentioned this in your Vast Grimm video but wanted to share here since rules are same: Since getting to negative HP from damage is more common than exact 0, I recommend the Death & Dismemberment aka Horrible Wounds system made/adapted by zordvil (or vil) for Mork Borg. You stop at 0 HP and negative bonus damage corresponds to a table by damage type. The higher values do result in instant death or when fail toughness roll, but lower has more effects similar to Broken.

  • @WorldofGameDesign

Armor works as damage reduction. Whenever you take damage, you roll the die associated with your armor type (light = d2, medium = d4, heavy = d6) and reduce the damage taken by that amount. If you take a critical hit while wearing armor, your armor value is reduced by 1 die type until it is repaired (example: d6 becomes d4).

Having never played an RPG or DMd, I picked up Mork Borg because it sounded like, from the community, it was simpler to play than DnD. Trying to read through the rules I feel incredibly intimidated. The layout, logically, seems like a disaster. I am wondering if it's only easier to understand and play from a perspective of already being an RPG veteran rather than a complete noob. It was somewhat exhausting reading through the book the first time and I am not looking forward to re-reading it.

  • @RetardTE

Yeah this is a terrible design choice. They obviously chose style over ease of use and it will keep people from playing. I'm a D&D veteran of over 10 years and was terribly confused as well. So definitely not an experience issue.

No offense but you wasted a lot of time ranting about where things are placed in the book when you could be using that time to actually explain the rules. You didn't walk us through how to make a character, didn't explain omens, how to use powers and arcane catastrophes, the rolls for the calendar (which was why I was looking for a how to play video)... A little flourish to the tutorial is fine, but not when your how to play video ends with a "of course there are things we didn't cover". 10:43 In the end, after watching this video, I still have to go back to reading the book to actually learn how to play.
