Ah baby, this is what I’ve been waiting for!

incredible guide, 5 games, 5 rage quits in age 2, tyvm!

One thing people forget about the regen is because it works in combat, it acts suspiciously like armor in a one on one fight, since against an enemy that takes 1.5 seconds to attack, you are healing 3 hp every time they attack (2.25 in the PUP. Or 4 in PUP imperial age.) Against archers/phalanx/buffed sipahi its not going to, but when you are outnumbering your opponent this effect gets magnified if you just pull out damaged units since they have to chaise the damaged unit while getting attacked (Taking damage while not dealing damage) or switch targets (Still really bad for them as now the malian player has two units regenerating, doubling the impact of the combat or out of combat regeneration.) Keshiks and royal knights each get half of this dynamic, but both are far more expensive less spammable units that can be countered as their healing mechanics have much more restricted rules. I am a little worried about how the castle age archer bonus damage is going to play out, since, them being able to quickly kill archers, while being able to micro the health regen to cost effectively trade with heavy units, is potentially a wild combo. Like, the feudal age is nerfed but they also side-graded and buffed many aspects of the malian mid to late game.

you should have a micro tactical section in those civ guides it would help a lot when unfamiliar with specific civ tactics. It's interesting how you say to choose to place a 2nd pit mine or aggro with more scouts based on opponent's civ because I don't even know what civ is good at what anymore lmao. At one point everyone was crying French is too OP on water, but overall it is a mystery when i queue what kind of playstyle I will face at all. I try to be aggressive with walls and towers to deny resources and assess from how they respond. Malian stealth seems a really interesting playstyle to explore and I wonder how you would recommend to take advantage of it. I suspect a lot of single units used like wards to harass potential astray villagers. Sofa Scout also seems like a cool units combo?

I feel some disconnection between the civ theme and unit usage and Malian scouts seem more connected with a Rus theme than Rus scouts themself. Imo Rus scouts could get something extra. Malians produce scouts and then they can upgrade them to use in the future. Rus, is even more connected with scouts, hunting, after the early hunt, and professional scouts can't really use those 4-7 scouts. Maybe delete horse archers at all and upgrade scouts in the castle age, which would change them into horse archers. Of course, changing scout costs 🤔

beasty, for IV age which landmark should I choose? Also, should I start trading when there wont be any gold on the map for villagers to mine ?

Malians is my favorite civ but I'm kibda noob so this is like my bible ahha ty beasty

If you know you will run out of food on a map like Hideout for eg where there's low sheep and 3 deer packs so going pro scouts is a bit more annoying why not preemptively make 3-4 cows depending on your gold eco ofc and keep them in ranches while you wait for your food to run out and then ungarrison and eat as needed cause then it's a nice double whammy since you get the passive food from them as well

You will need the 270-360 gold somewhere else so early, that 84-112 food per minute (you also have to build the ranches which cost extra) isnt worth it

what should you do on a water map?

What do you do with all those excess villagers once the gold mines dry out?

I would say every time you're stuck on a mastery, just play a bot match with max resources and discovered map, against a harder computer (that has a brain). In your case, attack him with archers so he trains horses hopefully (or just play against mongols maybe), and yeah, rest is history. This is the easy way. You might raise the starting age as well to train archers instantly + get the required technology for the mastery.

could you maybe do an How To Play for FFA Nomad ?

you can make a pit and also mine the gold with vills ? so you can do both?

how do you move exactly 6 units?

Every time gold spawns are right next to wood/stone/sites/water etc, so I can build only 3,4 houses at best... idk, weak units, get obliterated by everything.. don't like Malians, they don't really have a strength..

Above gold league the moment you get farimba going enemy has half your army but 3 mangonels so you have to build siege workshop, make springalds and during this time enemy catches up with army and builds 1-2 springalds himself, he focused more on eco before thats why you had bigger army with farimba but he made your army useless with the mere presence of a few mangonels and won time to catch up armywise, at this point he has strong eco advantage..

how do you play late game with malians ? like when you reach imperial age

It would be pretty bad into archer spear or xbow spear, which are pretty standard builds. Probably fine into HRE that is going hard on MAA, or a full knight civ (but then donzo's are probably just better answer)

Well, I don't know Beasty. OK, I see what a shitti player I am, but english just overwhelming me in the feudal. Huge amount of longbowmen kill the scouts easily, and the jawelin throwers r very expensive. I have to react, and I can save my villagers, but the economy upgrade is so slow, and I'm just f*ckedup :D

Javelin's are only about 33% more expensive than longbows and only 1 less range, but they get 3-5 pierce armor and have more than double the attack.

Why doesn't this apply to season 4??

Any time i pick malians in gold league, opponents just stonewall up at 6min.. Then if I want to break it down to harass, my castle is too slow, if I don't, they boom harder. I know it's a l2p issue but still annoying :)

Yes, because when you can hit fuedal at like 4:30 in 1:30 from that your opponent is castle and fully stone walled. I'm sure they're also 3 tc by 8 minutes, even though they spend hundreds of stone on walls and got the world's fastest castle

People do wall off in gold/plat (which is where I am too) but we're talking like 12 minutes. Perhaps I'm being picky but I think accuracy is important.

If they're walling up that early, their economy is shit, and you should be able to boom much harder than them and win in Castle with some siege. If you see walls, it's time to get greedy.

Well you need to practice it of course, but Abbasid is also one of the best civs against Malians. Realistically with Malians, if you can’t kill/fully cripple your opponent in castle age, then you will likely lose the game, as without trade they are probably the weakest imperial civ in the game. Unless you manage to take like 4-5 relics and get a Keep on every sacred site and full map control of course.

@@JordanStambaugh1 In Feudal age you should only use scouts. The Abbasid player will likely go Eco wing and try to go 1 or 2 extra TCs. As Beasty says you only need around 6-8 scouts to put on pressure, I don’t recommend making any other units as that will just delay your castle age. You should easily get castle age before the Abbasid if you constantly apply pressure and cause idle time with the scouts whilst avoiding spears. Then you can get the strong timing in castle age with the farimba archers. A good Abbasid player will probably still be in feudal preparing for this with 3TC by having a lot of spears for your sofa/scout and horsemen for your archers, this is when you should probably add a round of two of Donsos to protect your Archers.

This guide is good but you have to go through so much shit to understand what he is saying. Is it so difficult to script 5 -10 minutes on the build order so people can understand what to do, instead of rambling for 30 minutes going off on random tangents that makes it hard for newer players to understand what to do. Fuck me. You want to talk about potential of using scouts to collect dear and different transitions or what to do if you are getting rushed sure but at least give me a concise build order first then talk about it

Malian language should be popping and clicking noises, and food sources should be watermelon and chicken.. devs really missed it here
