Thanks, KDA! You’re right, it’s the only one found that shows the entire song. I consider the song one of the top under 3 minutes tunes ever made.

I just recently for what ever reason accidentally rediscovered this song. Ill never forget a day in 1975 my uncle picked me up from school in his 1969 Plymouth roadrunner. He stuck a cassette in and this song started this was my introduction into the world of rock n roll. Before this i only remember country music and gospel. Needless to say to this day i absolutely hate country music. Thank you Billy. Dusty. Frank.😮

Another great lesson for a true classic. Thank you. It even sounds good on my trusty old Ovation acoustic. Billy Gibbon’s is a Wizard on the guitar, gritty as all Hell, eclectic, tasteful and often transcendental.

Yeah,.. glad I went looking for this one! Basically, this is the only "How To" for this song. One of my favorites and I guess just us older guys that remember it (and that killer riff) would know and understand it. There's a story behind that outlaw radio station and they're singing about it. Very cool.

Thanks, I had been playing this wrong , close, but wrong for years. A drummer I played with liked the song, so we played it a lot. Don’t underestimate the drums in this song , as 5he guitar has an interesting interplay with them that gives the song its swing, and the song is about Texas swing . Zz top has some great songs before mtv made them superstars, rio grande mud and tejas have some gems

I had more fun playing in a three piece band and I felt more freedom as a lead guitar player. The open spaces in the music gave me more chance for expression and the opportunity to go wild with improvisation. How about you? PS Thanks for the slide lesson. I'll try it on my lap steel.

The weird thing is I started playing the song in this position also, after hearing it for years, but I believe the studio track is a semitone or microtone sharp for whatever reason. So thanks for posting this.

It's not standard tuning! Gibbons showed me: you turn the A string down to a G! It's 10x easier that way...

You are adding an extra note to the main riff. There is no G after returning to the A chord. The open strings you are playing ( G)after the A are not part of the riff. It resolves back to A only, with a quick staccato.
