For those people who dislike this, they are playing the guitar backwards or don’t have the talent and perseverance to practice. Pretty stupid if you think this isn’t one of the best teachers on you-tube. He’s patient, smart and passionate about his teaching! Go to a different teacher and see if they are better than this gentleman…do it go on. You’ll see or maybe just give up and try an easier song until you reach our level. Good luck beginners!

23 dislikes? WTF? This is the best lesson I have found so far on this song. The way you break it down makes all of the difficult parts easy to understand and learn. Really good teaching skills.

This is an example of what I call a superb guitar lesson. 191 dislikes? A 2% of dumb people is almost acceptable.

I was very saddened to hear that Greg Lake passed away today...he wrote some very beautiful and haunting music. A great artist. Very sad...

Thank you so much for your video... I can't believe I can now play "From the Begining"....It was one of the reasons I picked up a guitar 40 yrs. ago...but I never put in the time...then hooked on drugs..then 20 yrs. in prison...now clean and living a good Christian life...so I decided to try my hand at guitar again. Got out of prison 4 months ago, bought a new Breedlove and started practicing. Never thought I'd have the skill to play this song...but you got me there..a 40 yr. long, hard knock journey...and a dream has finally come true. You're a great teacher and have given me the inspiration to continue down this righteous path. God bless my friend.

Actually Greg wrote this song before YES wrote "Roundabout" while back in his King Crimson days. The song was intended for King Crimson's 1968-1969 debut album, "In the Court of the Crimson King", but they didn't think it fit into the album's context. So he kept it under wraps until the 1972 release with ELP.

By the way... I have been playing the guitar for 45 years (I'm 59). I had to learn all these songs (including this one) by ear or with the help of friends who played better than I did. You have the best guitar lesson vids of anybody on KZread. As somebody said earlier... I hate the videos where the teacher says, "put your 3rd finger on the G string at the 4th fret... then put your 2nd finger...blah, blah." Good Lord, let's get on with it man. Thanks guy!

Great instructor! I've played this song for a long time but it just didnt sound right. It's all the subtle things that you've pointed out that has made a huge difference.

This has been my go to song since, well, from the beginning and, while I was close, I knew there were a couple of spots in there that I was doing wrong. Now, I got it. Back to the shed. I can hear my sister now yelling at me from her room back in the 70's, "don't you know any other song?"

Not that anyone's particularly interested, but I started to learn guitar roughly 55 years ago.

As a novice guitarist, I truly appreciate your attention to detail. So many teachers on KZread are posting videos with incorrect chording. Good intentions aside, why would someone do that?

Greg Lake is just an amazing guitarist and you did a wonderful job with this tutorial! Emerson Lake & Palmer made some unforgettable songs back in the day. It's hard to believe prior to forming Emerson Lake & Palmer he was singer/bassist for King Crimson's iconic album In the Court of the Crimson King.

I was a high school freshman in '72. When I heard the acoustical guitar Greg Lake picked so beautifully I fell in love with the instrument.

I've watched well over a dozen tutorials for this song on KZread and NO ONE does it right. Until you. This is what I've been looking for. Note-perfect all the way. So many of them don't get that incredible dissonant chord right, and almost all of them play the two main chords in the lower frets. This has been my absolute favorite song since the day I heard it in 1972. I've never wavered once, never been tempted to elevate any other song to that lofty spot in my heart. And I've longed to learn to play it right that whole time. Thanks so much for your attention to detail.
