Greg Lake playing this at CalJam, chewing gum, sitting on a stool and all by his lonesome. The greatest acoustic video in my estimation. This video tutorial is a close second... Thank you!

Probably the only person here ever, playing these notes on a keyboard with a 12-string sound on it to get the chords closer to Greg's picking.

mind boggling how Greg played these intricate arpeggiated progressions while singing like an angel....truly one of the best musicians in rock history!

How could somebody come up with this tune in the first place?? It blows my mind. It would be really impossible for me to EVER come up with anything remotely complicated as this.

I attended California jam! Saw this live!....I went back and watched this video!.....He does this on 12 string+sings...both amazing....but if you look closely......he is singing this while chewing gum!!!!...big time gum chewing....?how...12 string+arpeggio+singing+gum chewing...+smiling....having a great time....how relaxed he must be in front of a sea of people!...your version is excellent as always...

Let's not forget he's on a twelve string to boot. He was heart and soul of whatever group he was in.

Greg Lake was I think, one of the greatest under rated guitarist/bassist out there. And Lord, what a voice. Keith Emerson his bandmate called him "The Voice", and for good reason, he sang like I'd imagine a angel sings like. Thank you for this lesson. I absolutely love this gorgeous song, even after over 47 years, it's still one of my favorites. I saw California Jam when they aired it on tv and Emerson Lake and Palmer were amazing, but especially Greg Lake, sitting there with his acoustic guitar, chewing gum, swinging his leg, singing his heart out. We don't have great musician's like this anymore and we don't have concerts with multiple bands playing on tv like that anymore either, which is such a shame. Again Thank you for this lesson, you do a wonderful job on it.

That opening chord is like ecstacy. One if not the most beautiful chords ever. I love it, pure magic. Thank you for teaching me this song. My favorite ELP song.

I agree with you. The version Greg did at Cal Jam 74 is mesmerizingly beautiful. All by himself with that perfect vocal and his playing just floors me every time I watch it.

I've got 30+ years playing and I have to say, this was the best lesson I have ever seen. Once I retrained my fingers to reverse the bad habits over the years, It started coming together. I played this for my wife on our wedding night and hope to play it again on our 20th anniversary...soon. Man I'm getting old!

I saw Greg perform this song at the Omni in Atlanta, way back in 1974 or 75. I forget the date but never the performance. Just AMAZING. One of the most beautiful guitar compositions ever !!

He was a giant in the business. Wonderful composition with a soothing sound that fits perfectly with the lyrics. Finger picking perfectly in time ,it all fits from the first note to the last. We all here you playing on that big band stand in the sky. Us woodstockers will see you soon enough.
