I remember well when this lesson first came out. It was no later than 2015 and this was the most complex solo I had ever taken on note for note. I learned it fairly well, but over the years all the similar pentatonic runs started running together. I’m glad it’s still here to reference. I just worked it out again and this time it only took about an hour rather than days. When I look back on how difficult it was for me to learn this, I’m Simply amazed at how much I’ve improved over the last five or six years. Thanks Andy for all you’ve given. I’ve learned many songs on your channel and thanks to you and your free videos, I can fingerstyle on the acoustic like a beast

Absolutely the best KZread lessons. You actually show what's happening and explain it. I've had the TAB to this for ages and always tripped up on the 'fudge it' part. Thank you so much :-). So many use KZread lessons to wank off about how good they can play the guitar, but you TRY to stay faceless (black on black) and actually slow shit down instead of showing off every chance you can get. I send to you a virtual handshake Sir.. :-)

You're absolutely right.. The key to performing this solo is the timing... being in the "pocket". And it's not really an easy thing to get right the first so many number of times. This timing issue really does make me appreciate Gilmour's talent, even more, as I work through this.

There are so many lessons of this great solo on the tube, none of them are accurate. what make this a hard solo to learn is similar passages with slight difference that give so much character to this solo as it is called the greatest solo ever. I have tried so many time to play this solo correctly and failed, but You and your way of teaching and attention to minor details finally breaks the secret . This lesson is really valuable and helpful. I've been playing and jamming this solo for years now and thanks to you I finally managed to play it accurately in the Gilmour way. Although I know he used to play the second solo on his Les Paul (like on the In Concert tape), I prefer to play it with my beloved Strat where I can use the whammy bar and send those high siren notes straight into the orbit. That's just so much fun. Focussing on the way Gilmour uses the whammy bar could easily fill another 20 minute tutorial. Thank you, mate!

In another lesson, you mentioned you are always trying to "work on" your vibrato...that makes me feel even worse, because the lightning quick vibrato licks (like in the very first licks in the solo) are just crazy good. Haven't heard anyone even close, and this ain't exactly the easiest solo to get the feel and timing right---I watched parts of this over and over, seems simple enough, but it doesn't even sound close to what you are doing:)----but that is the hallmark of a killer player, they have those small nuances that makes such a huge difference, and very few players have that ability of touch/feel/timing. You are an amazing player and the best IMO when it comes to these tutorials, really like the way you play each lick several times building up in speed and not talking over everything while you're teaching. I've donated, really appreciate you posting these amazing lessons.

This is an awesome lesson. A few years back I was not able to play that fast (descending part) and got discouraged because I just wasn't there. Now I am finally able to revise the #1 solo of all time and get all the little nuances right thanks to you Sir! I too love the descending part but the first lick is my all time favorite. I didn't have a guitar in my hands for many months now so I didn't even realize that my fingers were almost bleeding. I knew it would happen but it was so fun to play that I couldn't stop. I need to wait for a week or so to heal and I can't wait to go through the entire lesson. Thanks a million. I loved you passion when you talked about the descending licks, I too have a big smile when I hear/play it. All the best!! P.S. - At 14:34 and also during previous descending parts, David Gilmour has also a rather unusual tendency (at least for him) to play the ending while resting his palm on the bridge (at least this is what I think) and kind of make the last notes (on A and low E) sound more powerful if you will. It does remind me of metal (for the lack of better words), if that makes any sense. I am unsure how to call it tbh. Does anyone know what I mean and what is the professional name for that technique?
