I'd like to know, what's the advantage of a pad over a keyboard? I don't get it.
Well done. Well paced, organized… If this video were cocaine my mustache would look like Christmas.

I'm a bit late to this video, but I just want to say thank you. This video is exactly what I was looking for. There are so many Push videos but none cover practical chord construction like this. I'm familiar with music theory but have been using Push in the 'in key' note mode. You've helped give me the confidence to step into the scary chromatic mode and I feel I have unlocked a whole new realm of expression and flexibility.
Appreciate the long in depth video man. Other ppl have made similar videos but they wanna speed thru like they have a time limit LOL thanks for actually taking the time to explain things
Nice video. These patterns also work with any other grid controller that has a chromatic mode by 4ths like the Linnstrument or the Launchpad. These are great for guitarists or extended range bassists like me. Patterns here also apply to the fingerboard. Great stuff!

So true! As a guitarist i'm much more drawn towards pad grids then the traditional keyboard
Thank you so much for making this video! It's the only thing I've found that actually lays out, clearly and methodically, the combination of basic chord theory with the strange magic of the chromatic pad layout. Just super clear and useful. Great work.
So happy to have found your channel! Do you ever work one on one with your subscribers? I doubt you have time for paid lessons.

This is the best video on chords for Ableton Push I’ve ever watched. Bravo!
I've understand more about music theory, intervals and the relationship behind the chord changes/names with this video than with other videos about music theory.
More push2 videos please im about to get one and id love to see it compared to grooveboxes and other controllers!

Great video, very few people out there who have the technical know-how plus the musical ability. The isomorphic layout is great, keep it up friend 🏆
I’ve had a push 2 for some time now, and I second what u said about how it teaches u about music theory, it’s helped me be an all around better musician and helped me understand what was going on in ableton. It can get hard to understand vocabulary in ableton it gets really deep and can become overwhelming. But as I’m twisting bobs or using the drum sequencer which I could never get be it on the computer without the push. It’s helped me a lot and would love to see a video on music theory. Thanks for the awesome vid!

Superb video. One of the best on Push 2 and chords! This started getting really interesting with the progressions at the end. Would you consider another video where you get into chord progressions? And look at common progressions like 2-5-1 or chord substitutions or passing chords in more depth? I would love to see this on the Push 2. Congrats again on an excellent video.

Great video! ❤ To me it would really make sense if they'd put an extra RGB led bottom right corner under each of the 64 pads. Like that they could give every pad a small hue in the bottom right corner to indicate which note it is representing. So every note it's own color, 7/12 colors in total. Similar RGB led in the top left could indicate which octave the note is in. I think that would really make it very intuitive.

This was a bit heady, def not for the uninitiated. I’ve delved into theory gradually and moderately over time. I know scales, triads, inversions and that’s mostly it. I’m a hip hop head, not from a “trained” background. After about the 7th time watching some of the stuff started to connect pragmatically. Not criticizing at all just honest feedback that may be useful. Really appreciate the effort and breakdowns for real man

@@metamindmusicofficial I would like to learn more about keys/chords; As in knowing which specific chords can properly play after another in a track. Personally i'm at the very beginning of music theory so anything in-depth would be greatly appreciated! Also i just bought a push 2 yesterday and so far i'm loving it:))
Yea music theory combined with how to apply it to the push would be great and better than anything found on KZread regarding on how to play the push for beginners, it will allow people people to learn the piano without ever having to touch a keyboard that’s the future
@metamindmusicofficial
2 жыл бұрын
Great idea! I'd love to do this. Is there anything in particular theory wise you'd like to see on the push 2?
Push2 microtonal, that interests me. My standard piano style keyboard does all the standard equal temperament, but for micro tonal you have to pick a micro tonal scale and bake it in. So I was thinking with push you might be able to have something like, horizontal axis for semitone interval and vertical axis shift row below it some sub semitone interval. I don’t have the Push, so can not experiment with this idea.
This is the first time I developed any understanding of Push note play. I think the way Push lights up other green pads while playing triads in scale or non-chromatic mode is confusing and not explained.

reminds me of when my head blew up trying to learn the guitar fretboard after a life spent behind the piano.
hey man, which instrument / device are you using in this video?
Such beautiful presentation. Thank you so much. I'm a guitarist and I'm Longin so bad to play my synths it's just the piano keyboard doesn't stick at all. I have discovered this method of playing and I almost can't sleep from happiness. So much to learn and finally it makes sense! Please make more videos!
Can you save a chord with like 6 or so notes into one pad to build a library of chords? I often have melodies I put into my phone and I just want to press a pad with a chord to see if that chord works. For example, can I work in a key and save all major chords in a row of pads, the minor chords in the next row, and so on? That way I can experiment with different chord progressions on the fly.
@metamindmusicofficial
Жыл бұрын
You could use the "chord" Midi effect and play chords with 1 pad that way. You could check out a tool like scalar 2, captain chords or the Chord-o-mat max for live device to trigger all kinds of different chords on all your pads. Or you could load up chord samples onto differnt drum rack cells and play them that way!
Please share music theory using the push. I'm new and I'm trying to go all in. I'll donate and or pay for lessons

I'll definitely make some more music theory videos using push! I've gotten quite a few requests :). If you're interested in working directly with me you can book in a time to chat here: www.metamindmusic.com/book
What would be the best way to dive deep into using chord shapes in different keys? A) change the key in push when you change the song so that the colored root note is always changing to the key of your song? Or B) keeping the push in C Major 100% of the time and just memorizing which pads correspond to which notes keeping C as your anchor point, even when you’re not in the key of C? I ask because the second option seems to approximate the piano keyboard and perhaps give more context that can eventually transfer to a piano. Just wondering what might be the best way to learn based on others experience.

As a bass player, the chromatic mode just looks like a giant fretboard. I’ve spent hours playing the scales and looking at it like this is insanely cool. I feel like my time visualizing scales has been well spent.
now we can all make the lofi beats for studying lol!
Is there not a way where this device can make chords for you, like on maschine? Where you select chords so you don’t have to play them yourself?
@TheeDonnieRey
Жыл бұрын
It's not a standalone piece of gear like Maschine. You have to have Ableton. So yes, you can use the chord effects in Ableton and have them triggered by the Push 2.
what about using the layout in 3rds instead of 4th?
