In this video I am explaining how Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer play chords on the basis of a song. A beautiful way of making chords sound super awesome, and to 'spice em up a bit!

Oh Paul delivers it's a shame, his talent & character are tainted by his penchant for underage gals

He always delivers, not always with the consent of underage gals 🤐
Wow. Been playing for 55 years... mostly acoustic.... this made me get out my Strat. Glad I found you, Sir. Absolutely awesome!' Thank you, Maestro!!!
the greatest video on youtube. sitting in the sun in the garden with the tele through 60s marshall amp sim on logic and learning this amazing song by the coolest most chilled out guitarist on youtube. feels like heaven.
I love this tutorial, for good reasons: you don't spend an eternity describing every single detail which would make the video too long, but you explain enough for me, not experienced in guitar, to understand. I've looked for tutorials of this song, but it's always either way too long or too short and rushed. This is just the right amount of explaining. Thank you for this!
Paul This is wonderful. It doesn’t get much cooler than these licks. I’ve been wanting to nail this song ever since I began playing guitar. This is hugely helpful.
I took Santanas and Morellos Masterclass. This makes more sense how to play the neck then anything they showed in the classes. Awesome stuff.
Thank you! Clear explanations and great samples which are clearly observable - fantastic! I've been trying to figure this technique for ages. Well, an hour later and my wait is finally over. I'll post a video once I've polished it up a bit :)
Do you think you could do a video describing why the C# and the G fit even when playing in A, and how to incorporate "out of key chords" into songwriting?

It’s called modal interchange; there are some videos on it out there on KZread. If you have some prior music theory knowledge I would suggest this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y5iGo5Rxk8faZcY.html If not, I would suggest the link I’m going to put in the next comment. It would definitely be cool to see him do a video on this though!

Thanks for the input! I forgot that it was called modal interchange, and I actually had that video already favorited! Interestingly enough, one of the examples is a bVII. I definitely would like to hear Paul's thoughts though, because when JM does it (or JH) it doesn't sound jazzy, and the only theoretical examples tend towards jazz

G is a flat 7 and C# is a major 3rd so it all works in the key of A. tensions are a great way to spice up your playing, like 9, 11’s, and 13’s, if that’s what you mean by “Out of key chords”
Wow. Learning this was a massive light bulb moment for me. I've always had a decent grasp on chords and basic scales, but this is what linked then together for me. I watched this video along with a lot of your other videos but didn't really understand a lot of the concepts, so I ended up after a few recommendations watching Stichmethod's various playlists which are great for understanding how scales link to chords and can be used musically and now I actually understand what's going on in most of your videos. Incredible work Paul.
I love that you break it all up into discreet sections that I can practice individually and either use to play the entire thing or use as tools to develop my own music. This video convinced me to become a Patreon
you must be the best tutor I have seen in my 36 years enjoying guitar. just love every aspect. thanks for the inspiration
Someone had the brilliant idea that I should let you vote for my catchphrase. The comment with the most likes somewhere next week (as an answer in this comment) will be my next catchphrase*! *If it's some super awkward shit the offer may be limited to just one video... Or maybe not.. if it's really cool awkward shit.

Awesome! Thanks for the upload.
Thanks man just found your channel and you make things simple thank you so much I've learned a lot things I've been intimidated to tackle after years of playing I'm now like "duh" much love brother and thanks!
I love your videos. always so helpful.
Glad I found you Paul. You're great!

Step 1: Have good genetics
My first guitar lessons were in a classical style and we got griped out for bringing our thumb over the top. Hard to argue with Hendrix though. :) I use some of the exact same chords in Yellow Ledbetter.
Love your videos --- cheerful !
Again you make this look easy.
this was really really great !!!!
Axis bold as love , epic Hendrix track imo
Perfect tone !
Awesome! :-P Great tone!

This video is pure gold
Love the videos! Do you have any tips on training your pinky to stay near the fretboard? I realized how my pinky flies when I tried doing that G legato run. You’ve seriously helped me become a better guitarist! I appreciate all that you’re doing!!
I was fortunate enough to see him six times Friday night in Fort Worth Texas and Saturday night in Dallas three separate times 😎😀
good stuff man, you nailed it. xx
I will definitely try it out
Thank you so much for all this licks/chords lesson, i will definitely add it to my playing. Cheers, you are great, all my support.
