If you know your pentatonics and the common barre chords you can literally play all over the fretboard in a Hendrix style with just this one lesson. Amazing work and exactly what I needed in my playing! Thank you

Adding double stops between full chords to make rhythm playing more melodic/to add more movement/complexity is the best thing I've ever come across to make rhythm playing more interesting. I played guitar for 20 years before learning about this - wish I came across the concept sooner...total game changer. Great lesson too as always! :)

@@BrettPapa No problem Brett, and I want to be specific so you know just how serious I am: I'm a metal player who has played pentatonics/natural minor without any real theory for years. The way you related the sounds and chords to the pentatonic scale positions combined what I'm learning about chords(triads theory etc) with what I already knew about pentatonics in a way that was just perfect. I already had the finger dexterity but now I'm associating all of these phrases with their chordal function and emotional effect with pentatonics bridging it all. Well done. I honestly didn't even realize I knew pentatonics that well all over the fretboard.

Omg .. just omg.. my cousin grew up listening to me play guitar and was influenced to start playing and I started playing in 94', hes also 10yrs younger than me but actually knows more than I do about theory. I love that he knows more and he pushes me to be better. For years he's been telling me to learn how to play through chord changes but I didn't know where to start because everyone else who explained it made it sound complicated. I taught myself how to play blues starting back in 98' and I knew all the pentatonic shapes and the double stop tricks but I didn't know how to connect them in the way you just showed in this video. This is personally one of the biggest lessons of my musical life so thank you for this.

Would you be able to show how to incorporate this kind of stuff into R&B/Jazzy type chords? I love that kinda stuff to and I'd like to be able to mix them with the bluesy things I play too. Watch my videos!! You'll see me playing them and know what I mean.

I’ve struggled with the thumb thing for years but I’ve been forced into it lately because of wrist pain when playing a ‘traditional’ barre chord. Your tips here have really helped👍. When you get into it (if you can) the thumb over the top approach is so much more comfortable. Thanks Brett!
