I tried these methods and was surprised how much I sounded like Hendrix. Well, his style that is. Haha. Took me about 15 minutes, just like you said. I'm playing an A major, B minor, D major and skipping the C# minor. It's easier for me. I also found that holding my thumb over for every chord works the best for me, sliding it up and letting those bass notes ring out. Awesome lesson Papastache! I'm having tons of fun with it.

I think Hendrix tone as "metallic" "tingy" "raspy" clean, but distinct notes. HOW DO U GET THAT TONE?? Is it pickups? Like 60's? A certain pedal, certain amp?? Similar to SRV raking technique, sounds like metal on metal...HOW?? MY strat into blues junior great, but just crazy clean, or rock Overdrive/distortion.

Normally, Hendrix gear is not very complex. A decent strat, a fuzz pedal or a wah and a Marshall. Still, I can get a pretty similar sound with a Tagima "Jazzmaster" with P90's and a Vox amp with the gain on 7.

Before I forget, pay more atention to the volume and the pots levels. Do not use the whole volume, keep the pots half warm, half clean. Also, use the middle and neck pick up for better results. Sorry if all this nonsense has some errors, english is not my first language.

I'll give you the short and long versions: Short: tone control and hendrix used a fuzz instead of a drive pedal. Long: try using single coil pickups and set your volume to about 7-8. Tone at 5. Use a fuzz pedal with not too much gain and slide your volume on your guitar down until you get a little bit of clean coming through. Now make sure your Amp is set to have a mid pushed eq and a decent amount of treble. Make sure you are using dynamic picking and emphasizing certain noted. Should get very close

My absolute favourite Hendrix 'how to' vid. Had picked up a few basics elsewhere first but the main problem with others is that after 10 minutes they expect you to start playing at 100 miles an hour. This nice little chord progression with a few licks to practise is perfect for getting the fingers going - and the best tip ever about how to get your thumb into the Hendrix claw. Have jammed for hours on the back of what I learned from papastache102 here... get watching people
