How To Play 'All Shook Up' - 1950s Rock 'n' Roll Guitar Tutorial - Jez Quayle

Музыка

In this tutorial I teach how to play Elvis Presley's classic rock 'n' roll song, ‘All Shook Up’, in the original key of A (written by Otis Blackwell ...and Elvis).
A song sheet containing the lyrics and chords I play can be viewed or downloaded from my songbook blog here: jezquaylesongbookhome.files.w...
If you'd like to buy a copy of my chord songbook '50 from the Fifties', which contains 50 classic rock 'n' roll and rockabilly songs that can be played with just 4 easy open chords, then search for 'Jez Quayle' and 'Rock and Roll' on Amazon. Unfortunately, I can't provide a single Amazon link that will work all around the world.
If Amazon says 'out of stock', or you'd prefer not to use Amazon, you can also purchase the songbook from Lulu.com in paperback or as an eBook (pdf format). Here's the Lulu.com link: www.lulu.com/search?adult_aud...

Hi Jez. I recently bought your book from Amazon after watching a number of your tutorials. I'm 57 now and have been a drummer since I was 14. Lockdown brought live bands to a bit of a stand still. So I bought a ukulele during Lockdown and learnt a few chords. I thought I'd try and progress to a guitar, bit the bullet and bought an acoustic. Your tutorials have been so valuable and the book really compliments them. 6 thin strings are a bit different to two thick drumsticks! But I'm getting there and enjoying the challenge. I would thoroughly recommend your book to anyone learning or wanting to play some of those all time classics. Great stuff and many thanks.

Hi Paul! Thanks for the book purchase. I was interested to hear about your switch from drums to uke and guitar. Playing this kind of music is all about getting the right rhythms and a driving beat, so I can imagine your drumming skills would help a great deal. You can do a lot with just a few simple chords, eh? If you fancy leaving a review on Amazon saying some of those things, I'd really appreciate it. All the best, Jez

Hi Jez. Thank you for your message. Review has been completed and is on Amazon. When you say about it being surprising what you can do with a few easy chords, I think it's more a case of you making it LOOK easy! 😉 As for rhythm, yes the drumming really does help, I don't need to worry too much about my right arm. It's playing twister with my fingers on those frets that I really need to do the most work on! I bought the guitar back in October and practice every day, so I've gone through the pain barrier of running my fingers up and down what initially feels like cheese wire! Anyway, thanks for your help. I will keep using the book and watching the vids. I've always been a huge fan of Buddy Holly so really really enjoying learning to play his songs. I'm on 'Rave On' at the mo. All the best to you.

No, I deliberately avoided being prescriptive like that. When Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly covered the songs of Little Richard and Chuck Berry, they all played them differently to each other, and differently from the original recordings. It's okay to play these song in your own way. This isn't classical music 😊
