How to Play 'Ain't That a Shame' - 1950s Rock 'n' Roll Guitar Tutorial - Jez Quayle
Музыка
In this tutorial I teach how to play Fats Domino's classic rock 'n' roll song, ‘Ain't That a Shame’, in the key of A (written by Fats Domino and Dave Bartholomew).
A song sheet containing the lyrics and chords I play can be viewed or downloaded from my songbook blog here: jezquaylesongbookhome.files.w...
If you'd like to buy a copy of my chord songbook '50 from the Fifties', which contains 50 classic rock 'n' roll and rockabilly songs that can be played with just 4 easy open chords, then search for 'Jez Quayle' and 'Rock and Roll' on Amazon. Unfortunately, I can't provide a single Amazon link that will work all around the world.
If Amazon says 'out of stock', or you'd prefer not to use Amazon, you can also purchase the songbook from Lulu.com in paperback or as an eBook (pdf format). Here's the Lulu.com link: www.lulu.com/search?adult_aud...

I've been playing for years and I suppose I play on time (which means I probably don't lolll) but as much as I am fascinated by musical time I don't really understand how to do it anything more than just making myself happy as I just never understand even very qualified instructors but I feel like I understand it now more just with this simple song and your great instruction. Thanks for doing it without any pretense that you're too cool for it.

I love your style of strumming on the song. I was raised on Mr. Fats Domino … I loved him. I’ve heard everyone of his song and love them all. Ain’t that a Shame was right at the top, as one of my favorites. I will mention, that I was also raised on Hank Williams Sr.’s music. If it wasn’t for Hank and Fats, I don’t know if I would have made it to adulthood??? 😊 The main thing I wanted to say is, you have a great voice! I really mean that!! Keep up the good work, and Thanks! Jerry

Very helpful! I was about 5 when I first heard this, loved it. I have played along with the record on this and picked up the arpeggio riff, but the strum on the verse, not so easy. My ear is better at pitch than rhythm! Same thing with Summer time Blues. Good to see it written out. Thanks again for posting.

Thanks very much! And thanks for the request. Maybe I'll do that one eventually. It's a great song. I like playing it with friends, but it doesn't work too well on just one guitar. It's a song that relies heavily on lead guitar breaks. 'Flying Saucers Rock 'n' Roll' similar in that respect.

Thanks for the book purchase Richard. Yes, I have more songbooks available (and soon to be available), but they're not rock 'n' roll songbooks (they're 1960s, Folk, Skiffle, Beatles), and they rely on players having more chords under their belt. Would that still be of interest to you? I also have a range of ukulele songbooks.

@@Trendkiller87 I learned that way of fingering an A chord from watching Buddy Holly on the Ed Sullivan Show. It makes it easier to squeeze my fingers into that small space without inadvertently muting the top E string. My fingers are in the same relative positions as for a D chord, making those A - D - A changes heard in many Buddy Holly songs smoother and easier. 😃
