🎸 Lesson Summary
5 Fast Rock Guitar Licks For Beginners. So you're a beginner and you're starting to learn lead guitar... Perfect! In this lesson, we introduce you to a great technique that will help you play fast rock guitar in no time! We tackle 5 licks in this style and even provide the backing track and tab for every single lick. Enjoy!
Let's begin by taking a look at the E minor pentatonic scale, which is the scale that we are playing through in each of the 5 licks. It is so important to be able to attribute a lick to a scale shape or arpeggio, as this will allow you to use the lick in other keys and in your own improvisation. (See Website)

    Stuck on the first lick technique for weeks but i found this video and you really break it down to the fundamental technique. Now i can actually figure out the technique. Being self taught is fine until you reach any technique beyond simple chords. Thanks

    I really appreciate the way you broke down exactly how you play each note. I have been playing guitar for years but never focused on playing faster stuff until about the last year. It's kind of like carving mt. Rushmore with sandpaper, you just have to practice, practice, practice, but it helps when people break down the methods to the tiniest detail like you have done here.

    What is it with these Brits and how well and clear they teach on guitar? When they're done teaching you something, you have zero questions because they cover everything. Reminds me of a guy back in the day, Martin Goulding. The one guy I'd pay $100 a lesson for. I would have killed for these guys over 20 years ago when I started. The only thing I will advice is, on the first lick, do not pick the A note on the G string. Instead hammer on from no where, it will sound better and it will give you more practice with the legato lick. Shoot for making the notes CLEAR and LOUD, if it takes you 5 minutes to make that happen, so be it. Once you get the notes down clear and with good volume, the speed will come very quickly. Excellent video man, well done.

    Honestly you can get so much mileage just from lick one it’s insane! Seriously for those who are just getting into soloing master lick one, move it up and down the fret board, add a few pauses , vibratos, and bends. Spend two months committing it all to muscle memory to the point you can play it blind in your sleep and you will sound like a pro with any jam session of any style. And that’s just lick one!

    Great vid, this is the first video from you I ever watched so far, and I definitely will check out the others. Already a fan, but I'd have a few remark to mention if you don't mind. So with all that in mind I've just said : I understand that you try to plug your online course, but as the video title suggests, we are here to learn some licks and you just spent a good amount of time explaining soloing techniques, which is a whole another subject and supposed to be a different video. When someone just start to learn to play a guitar, first they learn the basics of music theory - with the chromatic scales and the structure of major and minor scales, then they learn them all across the frethboard, and also the chords. Next step is to connect the same scales in different positions, then comes the 'note chasing', together with some small figures that may or may not be can already called 'licks' and here comes the soloing techniques. - This is actualy what this video is about. But when this particular part comes, the students usualy learn a reason of these figures - when highlighting some notes within these small 4-6 ..etc note figures (call them licks or lickerings if you will :) and the reason is - under what cords should we use these. But still, this part is about techniques. When I speak about actual licks - they are slightly more melodical stuff while keeping the genre we actualy play in mind, not just jumping on and off between 2, 3 or 6 notes. I do apoligise if Im wrong about this, but when guitar players search for 'guitar licks' and finds this video in the line, because of the title listed, it is to be presumed that they are already aware about scales, techniques like hammer on- pull off, slideing, bending .. and stuff. We are here for ideas to be frank really. These are good licks, easy to learn but we might should also learn when to use them. Under what part or chord. So if your intended to plug your online course people like me, will not necessarily will consider to buy your pack because fo this video. - That is really the reason why I commented at all by the way. Trying to help really. Again, I have no intention of heckling or criticizing, let alone acting like a smartass. Not at all! This is a great video and you must be a very good player and teacher too, I only wanted to point out that the title of the video is not really matching with the content. I subscribed regardless because as I mentioned, I really want to check out your other videos, and Im sure I will enjoy watching them! Thank you for your attention, and keep up the good work! Love you! :)

    I have been playing guitar for many years and have pretty much faked fast leads it not knowing if I was ever doing it right. Your video shows the details in slow motion and that was what I've been missing. I do have a question. I tend to 'pull off' in an upward motion, which seems to put me in the position to make the next lower note. Is this ok or should I be using your downward 'pull-off' motion instead?

    hey! the key to this is left and right hand muting - so the fingers that aren't actively fretting or strumming notes can hold the other strings. We have a lot more info about this on other vids on the channel, or on our YGA Club here club.yourguitaracademy.com/courses/lead-guitar-beginners-level-1

    On lick #1, The open G string keeps ringing after I play the A note on the 14th fret on the G string, but palm muting it doesnt allow the note to sustain. Super frustrating, what can I do to fix this? Thanks

  • @yga

    @yga

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey, yes you want to make sure that note gets heard! It may seem tedious but I could practice playing that 14th fret and taking my finger off making sure I am lifting the finger up cleanly and not catching the string to make the open string ring as lifting that finger off the string correctly will also act as a mute to stop it ringing out! Hope this helps 😀

  • @yga

    @yga

    7 ай бұрын

    Thank you for reaching out! Unwanted noise can be frustrating, but there are a few techniques you can try to avoid it. One option is to use your picking hand's palm to mute the high E string when you're not playing it. Another option is to lightly touch the string with your fretting hand's index finger. Experiment with these techniques and see which one works best for you!
