ABOUT ME:
Thanks for visiting my channel, I hope you enjoyed the video! I founded Caterpillar Cross Stitch in 2015 when I tried desperately for months to find a modern baby sampler my mum could stitch for new baby Felicity that would fit in with her simple, contemporary nursery. I love cross stitch, running, baking fruit cakes, drinking gin, eating salted caramel ice cream and most crafts!
See you soon and happy stitching! Sally x

Great tutorial--I never heard of the pin stitch. Wow, you never have to go to the back of your fabric to secure your thread . I had done a large cross stitch project on linene and it was a pain flipping it over securing the threads. . I haven't cross stitched in years (I do brazilian dimensial embroidery now) but I use to take one thread and loop it to secure it. I was told that wasn't proper becuase the thread fibers were not all going in the same direction.. I have been thinking of doing a another large x stitch project and this will definitely help!

I understand how piercing the two intertwining threads of the strand makes it secure, but when you snip the thread so close to the point where it is pierced, doesn't that negate the effect of piercing it? Because the thread is no-longer held together by two intertwined lengths of cotton; it just ends, so isn't the pin stitch technically no-longer secure? I hope my question makes sense (it's hard to explain what I mean!)

I have only just heard of pin stitch as a beginner just starting my third project. I saw one very short video by someone which was fine but this is amazing! Hugely informative and I LOVE the naughty pin stitch haha! Can't wait to try on my future my challenging projects. Off to find videos on evenweave and linen as I have two practice fabrics and they are SO small and not sure if I'll be able to do it! 😬😬😁😁👍👍

You're doing it way harder than it needs to be. Enter in one point, exit through another point right next to it and do a regular X. The thread is not going anywhere. For me this technique is about saving the thread and not having lots of ends on the back so the back looks neater than usual. With the amount of thread you're using, it's more of a waste & the X looks wonky (when in my technique you TRULY do not see that). It's a good explanation for someone who doesn't know how to do that at all, but I seriously believe it is more wasteful and time consuming than it needs to be. *UPD:* Knots in cross stitch are generally a huge no. I mean, it's your project, so do what you want, but it's the wrong technique for sure. You don't need a knot and you don't need a huge tail. It'll pin itself with the basic securing of the thread that I described earlier. I've been successfully doing that for years in all my projects.
