Can you tell me what you’re stitching on? Looks like a scroll but smaller?
I noticed you cutting your thread on top of the fabric, are you using the pin stitch to end your thread? Enjoyed you going over the motifs in the North American Sampler!
Thank you! Fascinating! Much enjoyed. As a Brit, it was all new to me.
Ahh, Ford, Route 66 ends in Santa Monica, California.
Yeah, you're right. Not sure what I was thinking of there! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for such an educational video❤❤.let's go Arizona!!
Voodoo donuts is the best!!!
Love your videos, any tips for working on dark navy evenweave.
You can use a lightbox or a piece of white paper under under the fabric, good lighting and possibly magnifying glasses.
Or a tablet/ipad open to a blank white page!
Thanks for the tips will give them a try.

I’m a 35 year old metalhead dad who has become quite smitten with the very chill idea of cross stitching. CCS - and your videos specifically, Ford - have been my intro to learning. It’s all a bit overwhelming, but I’m looking forward to ordering my first kit and having a go. Thanks for all you folks do.
This is wonderful to hear! Thank you! Good luck on your journey into the world of Cross Stitch :)
Haven't tried blackwork but love your videos and learnt a lot. Just wondered why you used the hoop opposite to usual? IE upside down, working from the back not the front. Thanks 😊
Hi there! Thanks for the question. I call this stitching "in the well" (as opposed to "on the drum") and I do it because it helps keep the front of the project clean, and makes it easier to access the back of the project to bury my thread ends, etc, especially when working close to the boundary of the hoop. Thanks for watching!
What I was really hoping to find and cannot is how to wash mounted cross stitch that has been in it's frame for 15 years or more, and needs to be cleaned. I guess I'm going to have to take it completely apart and start it all over again and mount it when it is dry. There doesn't seem to be any info on how to do it in place, in the unglassed frame.
To ensure a proper clean you would be best to unmount, wash and remount.
Are there any different stitch for fraying fabric
My first project will be one of yours. My SAL and Halloween kits are currently en route to me. 😊
Thats amazing to hear! Are you part of our Facebook group? If not, you can find us here: facebook.com/groups/caterpillarXS/
Absolute beginner, I don't understand how to read the pattern. The kit I received doesn't give any instructions on it what so ever. Not really an ultimate beginner guide if it doesn't have all the basics. Missing info.
Hi, is this a Caterpillar Design? If so, you should have received instructions. If you did not receive instructions, please report this to our customer service team on [email protected] This video may help: kzread.info/dash/bejne/goV2ubKGpbrIdNI.htmlfeature=shared
Great tutorial. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
History can tell us so much ?
Absolutely it can! Thanks for watching :)
I work on linen only so could you please do a video of starting blackwork on linen. Thanks from Canada!
I'll pass this request on :) Thanks for watching!
I just watched this flosstube, and I have a question. If the pattern calls for straight stitches, how do you make the curve? I hope I'm explaining it right. Thank you!
I am interested in starting to crosstitch...you are a wonderful teacher and have a lovely voice.
Thank you for watching and for your kind words :)
Surely you use alot more tread this way jumping all over the place?
this video was very helpful i just got my cross stitching frame today lol thank u for this video
You're so welcome! We're glad to hear this helped :)
Thanks for the tips on repairing mistakes. I was wondering what to do if I’ve put stitches where no stitches should go? When I remove the unwanted stitches, then the holes in the fabric are larger than if no stitches had been there. Please help!
As you continue to work on your product the holes should naturally relax into their original position - if they do not, a gentle wash after completing the project should do the trick!
I did try stitching on wood on a Sulky ornament, it took me 30 hours and not that big. It was very difficult to get the strands through the holes and couldn't use the loop method as it was 4 strands and too many to get through easily, broke many needles, tried several types and sizes. Didn't work well and I wasn't the only one who had problems with it.
To use the loop method on 4 strands, that would create 8 strands. If you had wanted to use the loop method on your project, you would take 2 strands folded.
I joined a ross-stitching community of Facebook and someone had posted a picture of their WIP with this method. I was utterly confused cause they had like 20 different colours happening, and I could never do that. I'm a "one colour at a time" girl.
That's absolutely fine. Parking doesn't have to be used :)
How did box idea come into being
We'll look to go over that at a later date - thanks for watching!
I waiting for my kit and keeper from you
Thanks for your order, I hope it arrives soon :)

You are so welcome! You can get the "Piece of Cake" patter or full kit here : www.caterpillarcrossstitch.com/products/piece-of-cake-bakery-cross-stitch-kit-or-pattern
@@CaterpillarCrossStitch It looks like you have a few complete coverage kits; Book Shop, Florist, Toy Shop. Do you sell the stands they are displayed on? And, is there a Tutorial for finishing the back of the hoop for display? Thank you so much!
I do a SAL blackwork that is lasting every week for a year. You gave me great ideas to start. I never knew how to do it. I usually weave it under previous stitches which makes a mess of the back. So thank you!
Glad you found this helpful, thank you for watching!
These are great ideas but most only work on Aida. The waste knot looked very uneven because you didnt do a backstitch. Was there a reason for that? The last 2 ideas were great for working on linen.
Thank you for your feedback and for watching.
Very interesting, Ford, thank you!😊
Thanks for watching!
Great tips, love the idea of the magnetic board to hold the pattern. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching! We're glad you found this useful :)
Really enjoyed this video. I learned that Catherine of Aragon was the catalyst for the use of black work, and was used as a substitute for the lack of lace at that time by mirroring the intricate details. I love the clean look of the work and recently completed a StarWars piece based on this. ❤
Thank you for sharing that awesome fact with us!
I loved your cold open for this video.: "....metallic floss in cross stitching... No - wait... come back!"🤣
Thank you for watching! We love Fords humour too!
Thank you so much for this! I've been avoiding French knots for like ten years lmao
So pleased you found this helpful! Hopefully you will be French Knotting forever more :)
Is the Lowry ergonomic? I have neck issues

Wow, I've learned something new after stitching more than a decade!!! 😄 Thank you❤
So glad you got something useful out of it! Thanks for watching!
Thanks Ford. Love the idea with the loop start and stitching right then left. Brilliant. ❤
That's one of those things that's so great, it makes you wonder why it isn't just "the way it's done"!
Timely for me! Thanks, Ford.
Great to hear! Enjoy your project!
I always learn something new from your videos.💗
That's so good to hear! Thanks for watching!
I am 64 year old and for as long as I have been cross stitching I was thought by my grandmother when I was 6 or 7 and she tough me this way, so to me, this is not new, whom to credit for that method...who knows, but My grandmother was from The Check republic.... sooo maybe someone European?
Thank you for watching! Yes absolutely, it could have been!
You always introduce me to something new and really helpful. Thank you!
Glad you found it of use! Thanks for watching!
