I know these are commonly referred to as two separate types of deadlift, but is there any problem with going from a stiff leg deadlift straight into an RDL? They clearly flow perfectly into each other once you've initially got the bar to hip height from the floor.

RDLs with toes elevated on some 5lb plates kills the hams even further, helps you get more with less weight = better stimulus to fatigue ratio

My regular deadlift starts with horizontal back angle despite having long arms (span: +4") because my legs, especially femur, are also very long. Does it mean that I don't need to SLDL explicitly?

And miss out on those hamstring gains? You can stand on something, what matters is that you are reaching the end range of your hamstring.

Being that I am not a doctor take everything I am about to say as just personal experience. When looking at knee pain the culprit is usually above or below. I would try to release the quads a bit with a foam roller or lacrosse ball as well as digging in and stretching out the calves. Those have helped me quite a bit in the past as well as not trying to push through the pain. Just my 2 cents.

If I can be helpful I'm a physio and I would suggest to pay attention to your knee position during the motion, try to think about pulling the floor apart with your feet like in a squat, and open the knees out. Like @elitefts commented before me oftentimes knee pain is caused by something above or below it so at the hip or the ankle

Why won't you go below the knees with the RDL? You kind of make it sound like the RDL is just a worse SDL for new lifters?

  • @eliteftsofficial
