How to Photograph a Bride Getting Ready

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This week you get to come along with me and see over my shoulder as I shoot the getting ready time with the bride on her wedding day. This video includes photographing the dress, the details, the bride and her bridesmaids in robes, and the actual getting dressed. I also include some family photos that I like to squeeze in whenever possible on wedding days!!

I have my first wedding to shoot this Saturday and you have NO IDEA how much your videos have helped me and given me an actual visual as to where I need to be placed and how I should see things. I would love to see a video of how you balance capturing both the bride and the groom getting ready that are getting ready in the same location, just separate rooms.

I’m so glad this was helpful for you!! Typically I don’t shoot both the bride and groom by myself. I would have a second shooter cover the guys. But if I *had to* squeeze them together I would do the guys details then make sure the guys were 80% ready and just doing cufflinks and ties and stuff when I get there. Guys are soooooo much easier and shouldn’t take as long to shoot

@@Joymichelle Where do I begin - well, you're workflow as a whole, for one. I like how you photographed the smaller details like rings, shoes and stationery first before moving on to other shots. Loved the tip of photographing the details in both portrait and landscape orientation so that we have versatility when putting together photo books (that was a massive pro tip for me as I am just getting started on doing those for clients, so it was such a good heads up/tip!) Your tip for which lenses to use is also super helpful and it was nice to see your balance between directed shots and more candid ones. I also really liked the tip of doing less formal portraits with the bride and her parents. So, yeah, all that to say that basically, the entire video was really helpful!

Hi there! I just found you! and I am amazed! thank you for every detail, I'm a newby so woooow I would love to learn from you, is it ok if I make some questions? like for example, I've seen the last hour that I've been watching your videos that you take a lot of shots, do you give them all? or they get to pick or do you offer like a package, I mean, like a business how do you do it? I'm trying to start something (I'm from Mexico) I lost my job because of the COVID-19 so I'm trying to plan something to survive once this gets controlled... I love taking photos and I thought this could be a good idea! I've a T7i canon, 24 mm pancake lens, 18-55 mm and a 55-250 mm... do you think I can do something with it? I'm worry because I've no flash, just the one that comes with the camera, and I don't have a lot of pro gear and at this point I can't afford anything else than my rent and food... My head is a mess I'm afraid I'm not good enough and I've read a lot of things about this but I think it's best if I ask an expert about it, how did you start? how did you know how much to charge? do you enjoy it? sorry for the bible but I'm really excited / scared lol hope you can answer, thank you so much! new sub here!

Hi there. I know I'm 3 months late but I'd like to add something for you. Any camera nowadays is good enough. For your situation, I'd suggest you ditch the zoom lenses and get a 50mm 1.8 (DSLR lenses are cheap nowadays especially used). Your 24 and the 50 should be quite a good combo. Having another body would help also so you don't have to change lenses but if you can't afford it, just go with your single body and your 2 lenses. Just practice changing lenses quickly. And to start, just do small events like birthdays. The great thing about birthdays is it's not hectic like weddings and you generally just stay at the same venue. It's a great place to start practicing photography and saving up for better gear. Best of luck!

This is actually a great question! The eternal wedding photographer shoe issue 😂😂😂 these are from DSW and are comfortable for a bit, but not all day. I haven’t found ANY flats that are cute and comfortable all day honestly. What I normally do is switch to a different pair of flats for The reception. Just by changing them to something else, it relieves the pressure points and feels better. My assistant likes crocs flats. I’ve heard good things about rothys too
