    Can you talk about t1 schools versus regional. You seem to be very successful even coming from Chapman. A lot of people STRESS T1 and top 14 versus University Of Maryland Carey law School or American University. Can you talk about your experience post law school.

  • @edwink1467

    @edwink1467

    5 жыл бұрын

    T14 is important if you want to start your career at a big law firm making the standard 190K starting salary before bonuses. What makes T14 schools special are the connections they provide. Top big law firms (that pay you 190K starting salary) recruit almost exclusively from the T14 schools (and the top 25 schools to some extend), so unless you were a valedictorian or did something amazing in a lower ranked school, it's next to impossible to get a job in "biglaw." I believe Brittany mentioned doing internships at law firms in 1L/2L summer that paid $15 an hour? I have a few friends who are in T14 schools and their summer internships at law firms paid them basically the starting salary of a first year associate, divided by the time they worked there... about *$3500 per week,* which is hardly an "internship" kind of money. Students usually receive an offer (or multiple offers) from the big law firms they worked for before they graduate and have their position secured. Another small thing to consider is if you want to go into academia and become a law professor in the future, you would want to have a degree from a highly ranked law school. Same thing if you want prestigious law-related positions in the government. The field of law is undoubtedly elitist in many aspects unfortunately. Whether you think it's fair or not, sometimes it's all about connection, connection, connection, and *connection.* But if these are not your goals, there's no need to stress over going to a T14 school. You can go to a decent law school and still have a bright future and be just as successful as T14 graduates. (though the path may be harder and take more time...)

    How would you pay for law school? That's a ton of tuition to pay when the goal is to get a job maybe paying $50-60k. Public interest jobs are also very competitive to get. Why not aim for a UC law school where you can pay in state tuition & have more prestige. Good luck!

    The obvious answer to paying off law school debt is getting a job that pays well enough to pay off those loans after you graduate... My friend is graduating from law school next month and already has a job lined up that offered to pay her $15,000/month. Yeah you read that right.....

    Yes, never rely on a president talking about forgiven some student loans as we saw Biden running his mouth about doing that and now he says Zero. Plus his talk was on forgiving only 10 grand, so that barely scratches the surface of the typical loan and the average attorney would way most likely earn too much to qualify.
