    Well all the purist people that don't like the way this guy is repairing it's actually a good roadside emergency repair. maybe you just want to do it to sell the bike either way it's an effective way of repairing your exhaust temporarily very good for those that don't have unlimited cash to throw at the bike. I'm using a beer can with some wire wire support gun gun paste with aluminium sticky tape and a roll of tin foil hopefully I'll be able to post the video up afterwards then you can see it's effectiveness

    Steel wool is over the hole. I used 2 layers (or 2 pads if you will) and held them in place with furnace tape so I could wrap the aluminum sheeting over the hole and clamp it in place. Garage had told me to get it welded, but I would have paid $50 for that. I had tried muffler weld goop but that stuff only lasted a few days. The tape you used sounds like it might be an option for tight spots and I will keep that in mind since it's held for you. Gotta love youtube.

    On your recommendation I just ordered a few boxes of this stuff. my exhausts intermediate pipe has a nice little rust slash in it. Hopefully between the tin foil, this, and some galvenized steel wire wraped around it, i wont have a blowout. Will comment again once ive applied the fix to let people know how it goes. Ty so much for the video. It helped me ease alittle bit on using something like this. I was afraid id have to replace the whole $200 pipe lol.

    That is an awesome question to ask! So in the vid this was my over axle pipe that i wrapped so as for stuff that from the cat back i can tell u that on my car with really high exhaust temps (the way i drive lmao) it hasn't caught fire yet lol and its been well quite alot if time and miles. But im in no way saying its good enough to stand up to wrapping the headers' i would only use true tested ceramic wraps and coatings for that kind of high level heat... That said im not seeing it to be a fire hazard... At least it hasn't for me , so thanx for hitting me up with that epic question and i hope i helped you out...

    All that foil did was limit the area that the heat wrap had to bond onto the pipe, it added no strength and no adhesion properties...

  • @acousticability

    @acousticability

    5 жыл бұрын

    Well u do have a point. I was using the foil not to make it stick better or add structual strength in the wrap, i looked for it to do the same thing as when ur building up Bondo on a screen when gapping holes... I was looking for something to hold the first roll of wrap up so it didnt sag through the large hole while it cured. The second rap was to ad rigidity to the first rap over that area the foil was wrapped. I also wrapped well past that spot on both sides and to this day it is still in place and holding... In fact i cant believe that shit didnt rust the rest of the way out! Lmao love this stuff Hey thanx for hittin me up man and lettin me know what you think, it means alot. as i said from your point of view you have an awesome point and ppl should take that into consideration if they are gonna wrap in a small area with one roll and hardly ne overlap. Hope to hear from ya again

  • @acousticability

    @acousticability

    In some cases it would have, the repair still holds after all these years because i only layered it over a small area and wrapped it well past ass seen in the vid. As the wrap had metal to adhere to and then when wrapped over the foil it rez in the wrap created a bond over itself sealing the foil under and hardening over to keep it in place to add a little extra to it. Now as u and the guy above have stated if i would have placed the wrap over just foil it would have been stupidity, and i agree. Needles to say the foil and wrap the way i did it have been strong through washings, bottoming out, stones pinging off of it, heating and cooling, on trips and events. Thanx for hitting me up and giving it a watch let me know how it works out on ur end if u use the wrap

    Well like clockwork, perfect timing, my Z31 has a massive exhaust leak. Drivers side downpipe, its at the flange on the MSA header into y-pipe. Looks like I couldn't get under the car enough to tighten it down properly (sand and gravel driveway and garage floor). Luckily I finally got ramps and I probably just need to tighten the hell out of a rusted bolt, but getting a correct gasket would be a complete pain. So onto that now. Ah, spring. Gotta love it.

    Ya gotta love how hardbit is to get under them sometimes... I blew another weakspot out... this time its at the rusted flange on my cat catch can on the exit side... so im tryin to drive soft till I can patch that shit... also lost part of my seal on the front flange when I took it off for this vid... but! It sure does sound better then having the hole the size of a babys fist in the over axle pipe... Hope u get urs done easy... im leavin mine in the car this time lmao... also ive been thinkin bout gettin a magic lift so I can just work on the car instead of worrying how im gonna work on it from the ground

  • @Tygur

    @Tygur

    Dang. When it rains it pours, eh? So turns out probably since I was running pretty rich at times, I melted my cat to a big clog and that blew a whole half of the gasket off. The MSA gaskets are utter garbage, though. So back to the old setup if I can get it off, and back to popping flames.

  • @acousticability

    @acousticability

    That is one thing I dont miss... the new muffler, since it makes alot of back pressure, it makes it all but impossible to shoot flames... I was waiting for it to lick the paint of my bumper but so far no flames... I was really afraid cause of it only happens when the exhaust is super hot and with the heat being held in it by the muffler I thought shit would be lit all the time... but I here the pops inside the pipes but thats where it stays... Are you still hooked up for emissions? Cause if not just get that cat out of there for a test pipe till u get a new one... cause that would be one hell of a choke point and that isnt good...

    I put it on to help keep from sagging into the hole and also help resist the exhaust pressure while it was curing. I over wrapped the foil to make sure there was good contact. The reason the axle pipe blew out other than rust was i put a chamber muffler on that created more back pressure and boom... Would u believe the tape is still on the car pipe? So basically for helping it until it currd cause im lazy and never wait the full curr time without running the car lmmfao

  • @acousticability

    @acousticability

    5 жыл бұрын

    That is a good point to make bout the foil... But to answer your question it was not to have it bond with the wrap, it was to have a little support to keep the wrap from sinking into the hole there by giving it a little helping support while it cured. See i knew i was gonna be running the car to help it cure so i also needed something to help keep the gases in the pipe so that it just didnt blow out the wrap job from back pressure... I think i only mentioned why i was doing it in the vid not the whole reason y, but if u go back ull see i wrapped well past the foil.
