Fantastic video! I need to tighten up the head on the first axe I hung, it slipped a tiny bit this winter pounding on a frozen log to bust it loose from the ground. Once that's squared away I think I'll wrap the axe too. I have an entire roll of recoil rope for weed eaters that I barely ever need, so I think I'll use that because the budget is a bit tight at the moment. Everyone have a GREAT Easter Sunday! See you in the trees.

Instead of using paracord I use tar infused catfish bait line from Walmart. The tar infused in it won't let it rot and it does the same thing as the paracord. Plus the tar lets to get a grip on the handle by the head for better control of the head if you're trying to use it to make what's called feathering in bushcrafting to help make fire starting material.

I absolutely LOVE how that wrapped up over the lugs on that! You operate on one of the best analogies ever and it actually flows with your whole outlook on each day and that is KISS KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID Now you don't have to use the word stupid of course and in your case Buckin, you could tweak it to Keep It Simple Soldiers Point being that the wrap is so simple yet effective, it's almost silly lol. I will most definitely be doing this on my axes and splitting mauls as I've usually got 4-5 different people who swing them and there's no way around the handle getting whacked, it's like rocking a chain or hitting steel........it's just going to happen regardless, it's part of the game. Thanks for making this video pal, I sure as heck enjoyed it simple as it may be it is a damn good little trick

Thanks for inspiring me to try this. I put the first long loop along the front edge of the handle so it doesn't add thickness to the sides and adds cushioning to the front....i don't know if this is a good idea or not.🤔

Awesome, I learned something new!! Thank you Mr Billy Buckin professor!!! We’re do you get the para cord????
@mombasadele4794 жыл бұрын
I would probably treat a new axe with many coats of linseed oil before doing this. The paracord would probably bite a bit too much in to a new axe. Nice video.
@joeschranz4525
4 жыл бұрын
mombasadele that’s exactly what I was thinking. I think for me I’ll do a couple months of coatings then every year I might undo the paracord and put another coat of BSO on it
@mombasadele479
4 жыл бұрын
Joe Schranz Yeah exactly. And you can't really only oil the part without the paracord, it would leave an ugly section beneath. BSO - is that beewax with linseed oil?

Hmm.. I have to agree with matt van berkel here… I was expecting bar oil or two stroke oil to pour out of the cut in your thumb.. Haha!! Just kidding.. But wrapping the upper part of the handle with paracord is just good, common sense. It will withstand the bashing and abuse from beating wedges much better.. Have seen it done with soaked rawhide, and the result was impeccable. When the rawhide dried, it tightened up and became rock solid. Hope all of you in here a great week, take care folks, and be kind :)

Good video. I finally got around to wrapping my tomahawk handle. I only had one problem. The rapping part is pretty straightforward. The part I had the problem with was burning the ends of the Paracord so that they don't fray. How can you do that without burning the first row of Paracord adjacent to the end of the wrap?
@aaronvandenberg75502 жыл бұрын
Tried this all day on a Helko Werk Expedition from the Forster line. Could not get it to work no matter how wrapped it. The handle does have a laquer finish so that may have been a large part of the issue.

All I can say is I just wrapped mine & it's going to get redone . As far as cutting yourself well, slow down and take a breath first, second get yourself a roll of paper towel & a couple tubes of super glue , wipe with towel & put on glue ,works ever time !!! :-)
I use super glue when I cut myself.. Works great for me 😀 saves stitches

Hi from the uk grate vid billy top man top job
That's a Wrap!! Nice work!
Nice wee video-helpful👍🏻
Whenever I have an axe in the vise, or am going to be handling it for any length of time without a sheath on it, I put a piece of tape over the bit. Saves from getting cut. I used to think I was cut proof, but not any more. Cheers.
Beautiful job !!!!!!

That must hurt!!! So much for taking it easy, LOL!!!
Great job and video. Hey, get you a torch lighter for burning the ends on that Paracord. Much quicker, easier, and especially more precise so you don't accidentally burn a wrap.👍
Nice job!!
WAS LOOKING FOR THIS ONE 👍😁
Hey Buckin I've been doing this on a few on mine, but have trouble keeping them tight where the handle starts to come off the shoulders. single bitt. It does save the handle on a missblow for sure. Thanks for doing this one! I better make you a couple leather sheaths to keep on them babies when you're making these episodes!!

Hey buckin, good time to get caught up on saw maintenance and repairs !!! LOL !!
That looks really good! Thanks for the demonstration Buckin ' For a minute I thought it was going to be like the old SNL skit with Dan Aykroyd doing Julia Child impersonation, "oops I seem to have cut myself "
Thanks Billy!
Great vid, I love your commitment to this video buckin 😂😂 welcome new subs

Hey Buckin' I'be been a carpenter 12 years. I. just rehandled an old Hults Bruks 3 1/2 looks beauty. Just out in the bush all day yesterday bringing in firewood. These days I'm studying to become a Registered Massage Therapist. A good strong RMT would sort you out right quick.
I would probably treat a new axe with many coats of linseed oil before doing this. The paracord would probably bite a bit too much in to a new axe. Nice video.

mombasadele that’s exactly what I was thinking. I think for me I’ll do a couple months of coatings then every year I might undo the paracord and put another coat of BSO on it

Joe Schranz Yeah exactly. And you can't really only oil the part without the paracord, it would leave an ugly section beneath. BSO - is that beewax with linseed oil?
Coat the whole wrap with super glue, and it'll be practically bulletproof after it all melts together.
Nice, sure i will do that
Sweet pinky ring!
and thats a wrap folks!....pun intended...donate that blood!
Buckin' holdin' back the curse words.
Billy I just did my axe like on your site came out great when I get cut working i use duck tape or electronic tape no bandage
Working on my poor single bit ax. Looks like someone used a flint to sharpen it, like the cave men. All rippled along the edge, nasty. My last thing is to wrap it with cord. Thanks for the tips. It looking like a complete different ax, shiney sharp edge.
I also like it tight friend
thank you so much my rap came out wicked thanks to you

He's definitely got some good dope
Nice video Buckin. I feel like doing it now:) By the way, here from distance, it seems to me, like there's something going on, telling you to stop for a while, take a deep breath and rest before whatever this is, passes. Well, its just a thought, i might be wrong. Anyway, you seem that you can listen to your protection voice. So keep doing it! Take care, be safe, be well. Many people care about you. Love
love the wrapping work but watch ur fingers lol. lucky hogan he is getting an amazing axe
Good video. I finally got around to wrapping my tomahawk handle. I only had one problem. The rapping part is pretty straightforward. The part I had the problem with was burning the ends of the Paracord so that they don't fray. How can you do that without burning the first row of Paracord adjacent to the end of the wrap?
Tried this all day on a Helko Werk Expedition from the Forster line. Could not get it to work no matter how wrapped it. The handle does have a laquer finish so that may have been a large part of the issue.
👍
Becoming accident prone???? lol.....that is a good one. Stay safe friend!
Careful with that thumb very very valuable tool on youtube hard 2 get around without it hitchhiking and all. Oh and do what that Billy guy said take a few days off 2 realine things!

Nice job bbr just got done doing my double bit wish i could post a pic here but cant as far as i know. Glad you did this vid. So ganges is running the 371 now huh. Is the 371 the same bore as 372?
What model Go Pro do you have.?
If you pour or dip the para cord wrap in boiling water it tightens the heck out of everything shrinks the cord
