How to Paint your RC Body with Metallic Paints - Pactra Paint Series EP2

Спорт

Here's how I use metallic paints on an RC (Polycarbonate / Lexan) with Pactra spray cans. I go over how to fine tune the color/shade of the metallic paints. There's many ways and techniques, but this is how I make the bodies at The RCNetwork look good!

  • @paulgarwood192
    @paulgarwood1927 жыл бұрын

    Thanks again Rich! The first coat especially with metallic paints, is the most important. (opposite on a real car). It sets the the metallic flakes to a uniform consistancy and eliminates what can be patchy shades of dark and light. It is where you can get a more consistent finish with the metallic paints. Think of the tiny aluminum partictal and how they react to the heaviness of your coats. Wet coats flood the metallic particles and tend to be darker, less sparkle and can give you a mottelled or patchy paint finish. The flake is laying flat and is drowned by colour. A light dusting, for the first coat, I get out the better halfs hairdryer & make sure it's dry, then my next 2 coats would be getting heavier with each coat, then your back up paint to finish. The best part is you don't have to be careful with top coats of clear which can effect that last coat of metallic flakes on a real car. My advice, first coat should almost be a dusting of paint & dry before you apply more paint. All the surfaces should look the same and as you pointed out, try to cover all the nooks & crannies and even give areas you know are going to wear through an extra coat. Cheers Garszy

    Thank you for explaining how to use as I normally use tamiya paints & warm the paint up in cold temperatures but I've experienced with pactra in the past & with its (window tint black & flouresnt red & flouresnt green) I find pactra paints oily were as in tamiya paints are matt. When spraying coats. But seeing how different backers/base coat changes the affect really makes a difference. Thank you for showing as I'm in middle of spraying a matrix Mercedes C25 body in pactra candy purple.

    Nice job. I'm a rattle can painter too. I add 3 more prep steps. First I scuff the inside of the body except the windows with Scotch brite pad, then I wash and dry again and put the body out in the sun for a couple of hours to heat it up. Then just before spraying I run hot water over the can of paint to also warm it up. This allows the paint to come out in a nice even pattern. Now I have a lexan body that will never chip off it's paint. Ever try painting with chrome paint? Tricky, tricky but sooo cool when done. Keep your fine work here.

    I do not have a clear body - that said, how might I be able to achieve this same colour or what other paints should I use to achieve it? I have a 1979 model of the Jeep Wrangler CJ5 from the show "Mork & Mindy", which appears to be very close to this same colour (darker, if anything) based on shots from the show - if this helps. Because this model/kit is notably rare and is a collectible, I really don't want to screw this up and I only want to invest in the best for it. Any suggestions from anyone would be much appreciated! (Note: I am in no considerable rush to make it, since I want to do careful, thorough research for my materials. Thus, late replies are welcome!)

    Ben Cobb 5 mins is all you need if the sun is out, 15-20 mins is over kill as the first coat is lightly it almost dries within a minute, you actually need to wait 20 mins for the last coat as is the most wet coat because is more heavy, so at 20-30 mins is pretty much dried and ready to be handled, i wait atleast 45 mins though so it can cure more, sometimes an hour if I'm in no hurry. Also make sure to stay away from the wind as it can mess with your coats.
