Fantastic guide thanks for sharing. Am back building RC kits after racing in the 80s when I built the chassis but my dad always did the bodyshells so really useful.

Great work on the paint Gavin as usual. I’m dreading doing mine as always have runs under the masking, but will really go nuts pressing down the tape and heating with a hairdryer this time. These types of “how to” are a great mix to general reviews and build videos. I’d be interested on a “how to” on obtaining the desired stance (using spacers in shocks) for example, and a few other more technical aspects - like gear ratios by changing pinions and spur gear. Keep up the good work - love watching your channel. 👍

Some good paint tips Gavin, I've just built myself an Hobao SSTe Truggy and although the paint job looks good(bright almost Kawasaki green with black and red hand painted flames) I did however opt for the cheaper Core rc paint and I have to say I'd never use anything other than Tamiya paint ever again,it's so much easier to apply with much better coverage. The Merc is looking awesome by the way😊

One thing I forgot to add. If you look real closely you can see the angle line for the gold area. It's faint but you can see it. It helps line up the two sides evenly if you use it.

I also like to mist coat the first coat the first coat and let dry. It allows you to check the tape for leaking while providing a seal

Does this one suggest you paint the 'wedge' first like the Debis liveried version? I'm thinking it's more masking but want to do it as the manual suggested in case the green changes the look of the white. Ideas?

Green first and then the white. Remove the masking and then the gold. After the gold, white again and then finish in black. Once the black is finished, remove the window masks and then tint the windows with smoke.

What is the reason behind painting a layer of white then black? I'm painting mine blue what colours would you go with over that?

If you back black directly on lighter colours, the black will darken the colour and ruin your paint job. If you back the colour in white a few coats the black can’t bring the colour down. If you want to back white, back it in light silver first then black

No you need to order the paint. Tamiya PS paint. Don’t get the TS, it must be the PS 👍🏻

On retrospection I think you have a point. It came from a genuine place but I think I was wrong. I’ve changes the video to address this. 👍🏻
