    you shouldnt really wet sand after primer, primer itself is porous so you would have to really make sure the surface it dry, normally multiple hours. Lightly dry sanding with 800 + grit would be sufficient. but the outcome looks great either way.

    hi. the clear coat will protect the paint coat, so it will last longer. it will give it a shiny look also. it's recommended to spray some clear coats. but it depends how shiny you want it to look. if you paint just a panel (like my case) it should match the color of the other panels. the original paint of this car is a bit old, so the paint is faded. that's why I didn't use lacquer. if you spray paint the entire car, you should put on clear a coat.

  • @Sorin_DIY_Mechanical_Nerd

    if the paint you used for the scratches doesn't have laquer included, you need to spray a clear coat over the new paint. and after that maybe polish the whole panel. but even after this the new paint will not perfectly match the old paint. I suggest you show the car to someone with painting experience, before doing anything else.

    hi. the paint was created at the local paint shop. it was based on the car's color code. we had one can of primer and one can of spray paint. you also need 200 grit sandpaper for the deeper scratches or rust, 1000 grit sandpaper to finish the sanding process with a smooth surface. paint thinner to clean the panel. a wire brush, some cloths, paper towels, rubber gloves, paper tape. depending on the color, you may need a few cotes of clear at the end. you should buy a good quality 2k clear spray can.

    Thank you Great job I may do this for first time for whole panel but is it ok just to start 1- clean the panel 2-spray primer 3- sand primer with 800 sand paper 4- wash the area with acetone or thinner 5- spray paint 6- sand with 800-1000 for imperfection 7- clean with water and dry 8- spray clear coat 9-sand with 1500-2000 Is it right

  • @Sorin_DIY_Mechanical_Nerd

    @Sorin_DIY_Mechanical_Nerd

    hi. these are the correct steps: 1-sand the panel with 800 grit sandpaper and clean it with paint thinner 2-spray 1 or 2 coats of primer 3-sand primer with 800/1000/1500 grit sandpaper, depending on the condition of the panel so far 4-spray 1 or 2 coats of primer. if it still has imperfections, use 1000/1500 grit sandpaper. then clean the panel with paper towels. - by now, the panel surface should be smooth - 5-spray 3 or 4 light coats of paint 6-spray 2 or 3 coats of clear. you should buy a good quality 2k clear coat spray. don't try to clean the primer/paint/clear coats with paint thinner, because it will dissolve it.

    Sorin - DIY Mechanical Nerd thank you but if I don't have any imperfection I don't have to spray primer only clear coat and paint faded so I've searched and see that I have to sand wile the area with wet sand 400 grit then clean it then spray 2-3 coats of paint but I have to recoat with paint mean 2nd coat once the first coat dry to touch not fully cured right ? Then I think we have to check for imperfection once fully dried and do wet sanding then 2-3 coats of clear after full drying of paint am I right ?

    if there is a problem with the panel's surface (dents, scratches), it must be repaired/prepared (with sandpaper and primer) before applying the paint. you can spray the paint only when you finished preparing the panel surface. the sandpaper is used on the panel/old paint and on the primer (not on the new paint). the last time you sand the primer, you can use 1000 or 1500 grit sandpaper with water, to make the surface smooth. the primer's job (with sandpaper) is to eliminate the scratches and make the surface smooth, ready for paint. after that is just paint coats and clear coats. no more sanding (on the new paint or clear coat). the paint's job is to give it color (among other things), not to cover the imperfections. if the panel has no scratches and you just want to paint it to look better, you need to sand the old clear coat (if it has a clear coat), sand it down until you've reached the old paint (you can use 800/600 grit sandpaper). clean with paint thinner. apply a light primer coat (it will make a good bonding surface between the old paint and the new paint). at this point, if the surface is not smooth enough, you can use 1500 grit sandpaper with water. clean with paper towels (no more paint thinner). apply the paint and clear coats. check out my "paint your wheels" video. it's more detailed.

    Sorin - DIY Mechanical Nerd great information thanks I've sanded with 600 grit but in some area reached to metal that I suppose to prime but in your guidelines I have to prime it whether I reached paint or not but anyway I'll try to make one coat of primer and sand it may be next week I'll spray the paint coat cause my plan was to prime only spots which reached metal and sand it then spray with 3 coats between each coat 50 min to 1 hr until it dry to touch cause I have spray can Galaxy enemal paint fast drying that's what's written on the can but according what I've expierenced that it took 50 minutes to dry mean my fingerprint not printed on the paint then I'll apply second coat after an hr then third coat after an hr or 50 minutes After that I'll wait 2 days before applying clear coat rusteloum 3 coats then sanding with 1500 grit and buffing and polishing

    Ok I've done sanding 600 grit then I've applied one coat of primer tomorrow I'll wet sand 1500 grit but is it ok to wet sand one coat with 1500 Then I'll apply 3 paint coats no sanding after that Then about one week later I'll apply 3 clear coats then I have to do sanding with 1500 then buffing hope everything went well

    hi. you need to spray all the coats in 1 or 2 days. the ambient temperature needs to be between 20 - 30 °C (check the specs on your spray can for exact info). in these conditions is enough if you wait 10 - 20 minutes between similar coats and 60 min between different coats (primer -> paint; paint -> clear). if you wait 7 days between coats, the surface will get dust, moisture, dirt, pollen... the bonding surface will not be efficient, even if you clean it.

  • @Sroor2023

    @Sroor2023

    Sorin - DIY Mechanical Nerd but if you wait more than 7 days you can sand the surface with 1000 grit and spray clear coat right cause I feel my paint need sanding in any way some area overspray so in any case I need sanding so may be I'll do it after a month then respray clear and I think color coats is enough no need to re spray paint again

    M-am uitat poe youtube la vreo 20 de filmulețe cu asta. Și-am zis că-s ready to go. Am dat jos rugina de pe capota de la logan, am dat cu chit, am dat cu smirghel sa o aduc la nivel. totul bine si frumos. am pus ziare de jur imprejur, si-am lasat capota intr-o mare de ziare. si-am inceput sa dau. ca un idiot, cu strayul de vopsea. pana l-am consumat si-am lasat niste dare de vopsea in toate directiile. am albastru marin culoarea. apoi, inainte sa se usuce de tot, vazand ce idiotenie am facut, am zis ca repar. si-am dat cu smirghel fin de-am dat jos vopeaua. si acum arata capota in ultimul hal. plina de dungi albe si bleu. matuita ca-n ultimul hal. daca o od, zici ca-i scoasa pe usa fabricii. dar cand se usuca e vai de ea. nici macar nu e uniforma. ce-as putea sa-i fac sa repar ce-am facut? am zis ca mai bine dau 100 lei si mi-o colanteaza, dar parca mi-e ciuda de timpul si efortul pe care l-am depus ca sa nu-mi iasa. deci, cam ce-ar trebui sa fac? multumesc!

    salut. cred ca singura solutie e sa o revopsesti. pregatirea ar trebui sa dureze mai putin acum, daca ai facut treaba buna data trecuta. trebuie sa nivelezi dungile de vopsea si e de ajuns sa ajungi la grund. trebuie sa dai mai multe straturi subtiri de vopsea. stiu ca e plictisitor si esti nerabdator sa vezi culoarea finala, dar asa se face. daca ai observat in clipul meu, dupa primul strat de vopsea nici nu zici ca o vopsesc. e plina de pete. de la al 2lea strat de vopsea incepe sa prinda culoare.

    Sorin - DIY Mechanical Nerd da. A fost nasol ca batea si vantul. Si in plus am dat cu tubul de spray orizontal pe capota ca nu aveam cum vertical. Ar trebui sa dau capota jos si sa nu bata vantul. O sa dau cu smirghel fin acum peste tot. Apoi cu primer abia dupa aia cu vopsea. Sau dau direct cu pensula si "aia e" ;) Ar fi misto o vopsea de tip line x. Insa e scumpa
