Hey guys just incase people really want to use this as a guide, here are some tips. **Always apply primer surfacer before and after spray putty. Wait 10 minutes between all coats. **Also a plastic primer is needed for bare plastic and etch primer for bare metal. **The primer needs to dry overnight before sanding and for metallic colours finish with 800g **Leaving the base overnight is not really the best thing to do. Spraying the clear within 30min of applying the base is the best, the pores of the base coat are still open and ready for the clear. The clear can possibly peel and have poor adhesion otherwise. Wouldn't want all that work to go to waste. **The clear from a can needs to dry overnight then sanded with 1200g and buffed with compound to get the correct gloss. Getting people keen on spraying their own car is awesome good video. Cheers

People always complain about orange peels when painting with spray cans but if you do it the proper way and polish it like they did, it is in fact possible to achieve the same finish as professionnal paintjob.

Most paint places can color match paint and put it into a spray can for you. The NAPA near me does, and so does a local paint place.

David Fresne The local parts shops actually just have duplicolor "match" paint. Which never actually matches the paint 100%. The NAPA by my place doesnt have this paint match tech, and the paint shops just paint.

Im new to this so let me recap: Step 1 clean car Step 2 buy stuff - matched paint code color, sand paper, spray bog to fill spots, masking tape, newspapers, waxing grease removal, garbage bags, respirator, primer, filler primer, base coat/clear coat, buffing coat/polisher. Step 3: wax grease removal your car, mask everything off, put bags on tires. Step 4: sand down car, apply primer. Do about for coats. Sand it back so it's smooth. Apply a filler primer. Check with hand for smoothness. Step 5: spray base coat over primer slowly. Once base coat is applied wait 12 hours then add your clear coat. Step 6: once clear coat drys apply a buffer/polisher. Is this the correct way to do it? Please help lol

Surprised they didn’t mention around 4:35 the reason it’s better to remove the panels, if you’re doing a full job, is to get better coverage on the edges of the panels, and run less risk of it peeling from those edges in the future Also both Marty and Moog have some major mistakes with their spray technique, Marty was too close and fanning it, and Moog was just whipping his arm back and forth lol. Supposed to keep the nozzle exactly parallel to the surface you’re painting, and move about a foot per second, little bit faster or slower depending the thickness of coat you’re on. Still a fun watch, there aren’t more entertaining car guys on the entire planet *Edit:* the techniques got way better over the course of the video lol

The thing about rattlecans is, the run out of paint thing usually happens before the good coverage thing. then you have to go get more. And then you have screwed up bits where you ran out. And then you have to sand more. And then you have to waste more paint. And then you run out again. And before you know it, that 20 dollar rattlecan job has 200 dollars of body filler and primer and paint and clear on it, and still looks half-assed. Oh, and then the wind picks up and you get a crap finish, waste a bunch of paint, and you get overspray all over your car. And after a while your crappy rattlecan paint fades in and matches your car for like a week, and then it keeps fading....

How much did a can of that matched paint cost? There are no such stores here by Miami at all! That Autostore looks like out of this world!

I think it's somewhere around the $35 dollar mark, and the primer was probably $20.

Bulgdoom Yoooo did you find it yet? I just went to Advanced Auto Parts and they had my paint for my mkiv GLI. (Tornado-Red) I'm about to paint my front lip and side-skirts. It was around $30 for a can of paint, clear coat, and sand paper. I'm in Miami too lol

TheDesoulateEntity Didn't know they did it, I've actually wanted to match paint for a boat and airplane. Still, theres a lot less paint options than their store, and no such custom machines.

Bulgdoom I used automotivetouchup com for my car, around $30 for a can and it matched perfectly on a 10 year old car. They obviously don't cater to boats and planes but if you can find a paint code from a car with the color you want then I would highly suggest giving them a try. They sell just about any size you could want also.

Bulgdoom Super cheap auto is the store they went to in Australia and to be honest it's not that great. Any paint shop with a colour spectrometer can match paint for you. Just take off something like your gas flap (fuel lid) and they use a device that can determine the colour by analysing the light. Any good paint store should be able to do this for you. Good luck, even I'm surprised by the result of what they achieved with rattle cans.

The odds of ending up with a mismatch between the fender-door/hood is pretty high if your not blending out your color. Following this process using 2-part aerosol cans (contain a hardener) would greatly improve the quality and durability.

I was kinda looking forward to 11 second Gramps... I'm pretty sure you're just gonna turbo the S2000 to make it an 11 second car. Imho, that would be lame as fuck because it wouldn't be a sleeper at all, which is the whole appeal of the idea. I hope I'm wrong and youre not doing the S2000 for the 11 second build. EDIT: Thank god they still did a Legacy :p
