This is definitely my new go-to for painting Word Bearers. I've seen every video n YT on how to paint Word Bearers, and this is The One. I am also so happy that you explained the differences between Black Templar and Black Legion Contrast paints. I thought it was just me, that Black Templar worked more opaquely on my minis, than one results the other YTubers were getting. I look forward to seeing how you tackle a Death Guard marine.
Great video. More just like this one, please. This red-copper came out great.
A start to finish is great! always good to see everything done.
Thank you for this great guide. I have wanted a different method than just paint flesh tearers red and this is perfect!
Easily the nicest armour recipe I have seen for the word bearers
Word bearers are one of my favorite legions, only iron warriors are better in my eyes. This is beautiful.
Great video. Even greater thumbnail lol
This is gorgeous, and seems quite easy. Thanks for the tips!
Wow this really looks like Word Bearer from novel covers. ❤
I’m usually not a huge fan of candied color for armor but this looks incredible, fantastic job!
Excellent work, Darcy! Contrast paints over metallics has a neat effect, I should try this sometime.
That looks really cool, also I'd like to see you do a tutorial on painting Death Guard and maybe on how to paint different colors for Nurgle armor?
Awesome tutorial, and love the chaos cultist look! :)
Loving these tutorials, you deserve more views! On a side note, I saw a typhus you painted with contrast layering Mantis green. Im not sure what contrast layering is, do you have a vid on the teqchinqe? If not, would be great to see some deathguard!
I love the copper look before adding the red back on top. This is making me want to get back into painting warhammer again after 10 years 😄
This looks fantastic! Definitely on board for more full tutorials!
My second favourite Traitor Legion ( Iron Warriors are first).

Great result from a simple technique. Really liking the bronze aspect showing through.
Such a cool and intricate mini and dope paintjob!
Absolutely beautiful! One of my favorite legions as a whole done justice in their 40k form at last!
A very nice result on this miniature. 👏👏👏👏
I love this take on the Word Bearers! It turned out awesome! Thank you!
I loved this! Thank you so much… I have a whole box of these things to paint, and was not looking forward to all of the trim! I do love the full miniature from start to finish tutorials-thank you so much
Such a nice looking armour! Great work
Turned out beautifully. Video was not too long nor too complex. Don't worry about the foot, they can grow it back.😅
Some great techniques in this video, very nicely done 👏👏
👍👍 this is awesome! I had a similar recipe planned for my Gravis Salamanders, it would basically be the same process but with greens 😃
Great video! I'd love to see a tutorial on painting older, slightly cruder minis to make them look as good as possible- I'm specifically thinking the AOS spider riders would be a good choice, those things are rough!

Very nice video, great tutorial, love the finished product! And that thumbnail was priceless!

Awesome scheme! I'm thinking of starting a WB army myself and digging through painting tips for them. Your armor is the best one I've seen, so different from the others. I absolutely love it!
Really good video and the reasons for the colour choices. Great work!
Wow amazing method! I would love an Emperor's Children tutorial 😁
Thank you for your video. It is very well explained. I have been making terrain for a friend and he has gave me some chaos marines .I have not played warhammer for 25 years .Good to get back into it .
Incredible guide. Loved it and your narrative!
love this process I'm gonna try it myself
the weapons are my favorite part to paint because I paint them in gaudy colors like the 90s bright red or green. really cool technique for the lens in green. I enjoyed that! will try it out
Amazing. Thank you for the thoroughness! Would love to see how you'd go about doing a Night Lord version of the above - I love the darkness of it! :D
This is great, absolutely amazing!
Brilliant! More please! Start to finish
Great tutorial. I just managed to build 10 Termagants and now really feel the need to start a Word bearer army. If I'm lucky I can start to play in 13th edition 😂
Great video, loved the start to finish process

Starting a random Word Bearer this weekend and love the way this came out. Always wanted to try to get that sort of Angels of Death metallic armor going, this seems like a great way to do it. Just need to get some paper plates...
This was awesome, more!
This was great! I have new techniques to use on my word bearers now!!!
Best result what i saw *___* Thx for video!
Thank you so much for this guide!
Good timing on this as I just started painting my first Tyranid army and was looking for a good way accent their purple chiton. Was just looking at different ways to get an orange highlight and now I'm convinced to try flesh tearers red and iyanden yellow like you recommend here. Looking forward to seeing the blended orange effect.
Great video, now I want to grab some chaos marines to try this out.
Wonderful tutorial
Thanks for the cool tutorial!

Awesome video! Would love to see your take on a metallic purple scheme (say, pre heresy Emperor's Children). I've tried a few methods myself but I'm far from an expert so would love to see how you'd approach it
Really like the functional fixes you do for correcting hiccups in painting through your vids I find a lot of value in that off tangent "Hey if you run into this likely problem here's how to bring it back to the scheme" thing you do in your vids Darcy.

@@DarcyBonoCreations Oh absolutely, I've had a few occasions painting where I've done something that didn't turn out the way I hoped and wasn't sure what to do next. I've ran into that problem a few times painting my 1000 sons with a metallic blue from turbo dork they look great, but it's a slog to get all the trim done without running amok of the blue.
great video really enjoyed very instructional
That red is 💯
I'd love to have been there to see your face when you realised his toe was missing 😂 ''Oh balls... ah well, I'll just stick a nice big tuft here, no one will ever know...''
I will be trying this
I learned something new about coloration over a metallic base. What do you think about hairspray over the metallic and under the color coat to let you 'chip' away the paint for some of the weathering effect?
Amazing thanks
I was wanting to use a mica powder and matte medium to spray the power armour, but not sure if thatll be too impercise and muck up all the finer bits and bobs
That burgundy-copper color came out beautiful! Any chance you would ever paint a Chaos Knight Abominant? It's one of my favorite models and I need to work up the courage to put paint on it, but now that I've found your channel, I kinda want to see what YOU would do with one. Keep up the great painting!

Hey thank you! I'm sorry to disappoint, but if there's one thing I don't enjoy painting, it's vehicles (especially big walkers). I've actually turned down commissions before because they just really aren't my thing 😅.
Undercoating in metallic is I think a necessity with Chaos models, just to deal with all that baroque trim.
The simplicity of your techniques and your mastery of applying them is always great to see, and encourages my learning-to-paint self to give things a try. When do you choose to use Lahmian Medium over Contrast Medium? I don't fully understand the difference in their application, but I would have assumed that you'd default to Contrast Medium when using contrasts. You mention that Lahmian diffuses more... is there more to it than that?
Hello. Thank you very much for your method! I have already painted terminators, chosen, MoE, and chaos lord with it. Now finishing Forgefiend and lord discordant. One question, which varnish (if any) to you recommend? I tried Vallejo satin and Vallejo metal gloss with it. Satin dulls the metal trim, and gloss look too unrealistic, making reflective shadows, though my brush application might be too thick. So what would be your choice?
This lolks great! What colours would you reccomend for thousand sons rubrics?
I’m going to do my World Eaters like this, just more red obv. This is an amazing method!

Yaaaas! The best legion!! Also, if you want to stick with their gold/brass trim, you can replace the first step with Skeleton Horde Contrast. Since it's a warm yellow tan, the red should go over it nicely when you do the rest of the armor.

@@DarcyBonoCreations you the best, thank you!
This was awesome, I absolutely love it but I have a few notes. Firstly, leadbelcher spray as a zenithal over chaos black might help this, the chaos black coat will negate a lot of the hydrophobic effects you get with lead belcher spray. Secondly, the first section should probably end with a sarcastic comment along the lines of 'and that's it for our iron warriors tutorial. And third and finally, your 'notes' on the consistency, opacity and hue of colours is frankly perfect, everything that needed to be said was said and I congratulate you on the completeness of your commentry, I really appreciate it.

And that's too funny because I actually had originally recorded "And now he's part of the Iron Warriors." at the part you suggested, but then deleted it because I thought it looked a bit too clean for them 😄. And thank you so much for watching and for your amazing feedback!

I'd love to see how this translates to Drukhari, here's hoping I can find that spray.
Looks really fantastic, just like original Word Bearers colour scheme. I work with AP Speedpaints and I think the recipe would be Slaughter Red + Hive Dweller Purple or Purple Swarm (probably HDP) and a drop of Speedpaint Medium. I must try this now. I'd gladly watch you do Death Guard Chaos Marine with this technique (with a lot of vomit & slime).

@DarcyBonoCreations

I'd airbrush on the copper, but for chaos, stippling works just as well. You'd have to either airbrush or be careful applying the 2nd coat of the glaze. Leviathan Purple spreads evenly over smooth surfaces but since it still has Flesh Tearers Red in it, you may run into streaking. I did it on a Helbrute and it was no issue, but its panels are still much smaller than a rhino's.
This is also a perfect method of Painting Flesh Tearers. Just prime in black and skip the bronze chain steps
Love these colors! How well would this process work on a vehicle?
@DarcyBonoCreations
11 ай бұрын
I tried it on a Hellbrute and it worked well. If you were doing anything with really large flat surfaces like a tank, you'd probably wanna use an airbrush for the second glaze.
This one is very good to... ok, time to subscrive. Merci pour les vidéos

Thank you! 🥰
Great tutorial! Just one question: when applying the first base coat of flesh tearers/leviathan/lahmian, I found it to be very transparent. To get the nice rich burgundy, did you end up applying more than one coat?
@DarcyBonoCreations
8 ай бұрын
Thank you! And nope, only did what's in the video. It was just layer of the red/purple mixture, add copper and then the thin red/purple glaze at the end. If you're finding yours too transparent, you can use a little less medium since that's what adjusts the transparency. Also make sure you're shaking your paints very well before hand, as both colors are quite pigmented and it can sink to the bottom in the pots.

Did you use an undercoat spray before the vallejo silver spray?
@DarcyBonoCreations
3 ай бұрын
Nope, the silver spray is the primer.
Please, please, if you have a moment, respond to my question! How would you go about painting Word Bearer vehicles that match the armor? I just returned from Adepticon and my whole team followed your paint scheme (we love it!!!), and while some of them painted their vehicles to be a flat, non-metallic red, I wonder if such a burgundy-on-copper-and-silver effect is possible on the flat surfaces of, say, a Rhino?
@big.gib.4L
3 ай бұрын
I'm trying to learn to paint too but it sounds like it would work as long as you adjusted the highlights and shadows accordingly? Might be a duller sheen than on the armor but easily more widespread
@DarcyBonoCreations
3 ай бұрын
Hey sorry for the delay. I posted the Adepitcon mini giveaway and unfortunately your question got buried under the entry comments in my notifications 😅. Glad your team liked the pain scheme. So you definitely can use the same process BUT you'll want to use an airbrush to apply the glaze over the copper so you don't have obvious brush strokes on the large flat panels. Huge Minis does make an air paint version of the copper as well so that's an option instead of doing a ton of stippling.
I would love to try this out, just wanted to ask one question. The spray you use, is there a difference between the black Vallejo can and the white one? Are they the same thing, or are there different formulations
@DarcyBonoCreations
11 ай бұрын
I'm 95% certain they're different formulation. I say that because the previous metal primer was no where near as fine mist as these and Contrasts ran off it (it could be I just had a bad can though). The black cans are the newest ones, the white are the original formula.

Would doing the Transparent Black & Lahmian Medium step be achievable through the airbrush?
@DarcyBonoCreations
5 күн бұрын
Yes, you can put Contrast Paints and similar transparent paints in an airbrush. However they won't behave the same as their intended purpose. They're meant to sink into the recesses, heavily saturate those but also provide a tint the raised surfaces. If you run it through an airbrush it will just act like a standard filter and mainly tint the raised portions.

Whats the difference between using lahmian medium vs contrast medium?
@DarcyBonoCreations

Honestly, not much. I find Lahmian Medium makes the Contrast Paints flow a bit more (closer to a shade), while Contrast Medium makes them more transparent but have relatively the same viscosity as before.
