You’d need 8 coats to make it even worth it. and you would never know the difference looking at them if they were cleared. These have so much sheen and metallic you wouldn’t know. I’ve painted numerous sets of calipers. Some cleared and some not and would not even worry about clearing them ever again honestly. Rattle can clear is almost worthless. If I was paint body pieces, I’d use clear for sure-but I wouldn’t be using rattle can paint, so that’s irrelevant lol. @@oldirtydave22 I've used 2k clear for color matching spoilers and splitters etc. and it does the job for those small pieces. The formula is similar to what you'd mix at a body shop, but you cannot control the ratios inside of the can or how it sprays, so the aerosol can be finiky in varying weather conditions. I've just always had access to a bodyshop--I worked in the industry for many years and my brother still does body and paint work. But yes, its a good option for painting small pieces.

Good job man. But honestly no need to take them off the car. Just tape up the back side by putting masking tape on the edge where they join together. Then tape everything else up, brake disk and a-arms, shocks and paint it there on car. I went all out and finger wetsanded to glass. Everyone whos seen them think they where powder coated.

@SpeedCultureStudios I did this to my 08G37S coupe that I had for 14 years. Did it twice, first purple, then burnt copper. Lasted years, not 1 issue. I've also painted a couple of friends cars. Prep is everything. I tape it up. Takes me half hour to tape up. Then I sand it down with 800. Then I sand it with 1200. Then I clean with alcohol. Re-tape lines and then I paint 3 coats and 5 coats clear. Then finger wetsand 2000, then 3000. About 4 hours a wheel. Maybe more time then you've spent, but it looks just as good. No one sees the back part of the caliper. Plus if im going to take them off, it might as well go to powder coating. Anyways just my 2 cents that it can be done. I just bought a 2021 Q60 Red Sport and will be posting a KZread video next month with my process on the Q60. Going to paint them yellow, car is red.

@@xcaliburG37S no one sees the back-but I do lol. I still really wouldn’t powder coat even when having to take them off. You have to break them down completely and it costs 10x as much. When prepped right, paint will be very durable as you’ve experienced. I’ve certainly painted calipers on the car, but for the Q, having them done front and back was required for me lol
