HOW TO PAINT AN APPLE WITH WATERCOLOR - Realistic apple in watercolour, suitable for beginners
This easy to follow watercolour tutorial will really boost your confidence even if you are new to watercolor painting. I have used a limited palette to keep things simple. Learning how to paint can be difficult, so my job is to make painting easy. This easy watercolour apple is suitable for beginners so that you can hone in on your watercolour skills. This is a realtime watercolour tutorial, with time lapse for the boring bits. Worried about drawing? No need. I have linked in another tutorial on how to trace down your drawing so that you can press on with watercolour painting.

ANOTHER thing I love and appreciate about you is how inclusive and considerate you are ❤️ Not many (if any?) have endless supplies of Da Vinci Maestro brushes or sheets upon sheets of Arches paper. Particularly whilst we are learning 😄

Thank you. It’s so important when learning to just dive in. I say ‘use what you have’ a lot because I want art to be accessible for everyone and you don’t always need fancy supplies. Enjoy 😘
Helen thank you so much for generously sharing your talents with all - it comes from the heart and is received with gratitude.

I've had a rough time doing a apple in pastel and colour pencils, so I'm sure it will be helpful! It's that stem region, shading and highlight that beleaguers me every time! I'll try your tutorial in watercolour this next time. Thank you, Helen!

Ultimate comment from my husband after I did this tutorial - "very realistic, especially the shading". How about a pear, strawberry, or raspberry?

Thank you so much for all these you do. I've just started and about the time i panic, you calmly say don't worry about that, it will dry much lighter or it will be alright.......it's very reassuring. I know you aren't speaking directly to me, but every time I get like that, you say something that lets me know it's ok. lol love your work and you're laid back way of teaching/sharing your knowledge. Thank you!

Wow, yanno Helen, this is probably the first thing I really set out to paint. Three months ago, I didn't know the difference between raw umber or burnt umber (which is one reason my apple looked manky) and even as detailed as you are here, I didn't understand things like I better understand now. I'm happy to say this morning, I turned out a nice, respectable green apple, even though a few months ago, I struggled with this quite a bit. It's the first time I found myself thinking "Yes, I CAN do this!". Such a good feeling! Thanks so much for your invaluable help in reaching this pivotal moment. 😘

Ah, thanks! I'm going to try one more version later now that I've quinacridone gold. I used burnt seinna in the last one and the stem isn't quite as I wanted it. I'd be glad to scan it and slap it up in our group page, Helen! 😁

My favorite brand is Sennelier. But I do like Winsor Newton and Daniel Smith. O liked these two until I discovered Sennelier. But Shinhan 652 Bright Violet beats many other brands. Beautiful color.

Helen, I LOVE painting and drawing FIGS! Not dried figs, fresh figs - I've seen all sorts of colours in Australian figs, even a HOT OPERA PINK in their stems sometimes would you believe?! They make for beautiful subject matter (and delicious snacks!) - though having never been to the UK before, I'm not sure about their availability in your local area? Keep up the great work, Helen! 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
