I've meant to say this on other water color videos, but being good at watercolor is a super power if you think of it a certain way. like you're actually controlling fucking water. this is just amazing to me lol

I'm afraid of coloring my Pictures... Every time I try it a voice in my head says "no, it's going bad". So I seldom finish a painting... This makes me very sad... But with your videos I've got more wisdom and so I'll try it the next time. 😄 Thank you Danica! You are a great artist! 🌸 (I'm from Germany sorry for my bad English ._.)

Staring at my paper and I can’t believe it, I did it. I just couldn’t get the hang of it and now I can! Thank you!

Anastasia Sirius good idea !!!
Hello Danica, it's great that you give lessons in the basic techniques. Some of us are entirely new to water colour, so this video was a really great help. If you know of more tips and tricks essential to water colour work, please share! 👍☺☀ Thanks!
This inspired me to do graded washes! Thanks Danica
So pretty and soothing to watch. Great tips too! I'm so guilty of forgetting to really take advantage of glazing... :) Thanks for the great video!
your explanation is easy to understand, I'm gonna try this later!
I love your art!
Beautiful watercolor gradients. Thanks for sharing
It is amazing to see how clean are your brushes
Love your tutorials so much♥.♥ Thank you for all the help that you give to us!!!

Thanks for these basics. For me, as a beginner, they‘re extremely helpful
yes! a new tutorial! I was waiting for it. thank you! :)
Thank you for doing tutorials! They are so helpful! I love them :) I always learn so much from you.
Really well explained, really helpful - thanks heaps!
Thanks for the help! Had to do a watercolour based project for college and I actually discovered more significance of watercolor paint. Was tricky to get started, since it is a double exposure with a rabbit, but it was easy to fix with water. I always tried working with the colours more than the water
Thank you for showing your palette and water management in this tutorial, extremely helpful. Very few do this.

You're a wonderful teacher!
Thank you, thank you, Danica! Flat and graduated washes are arguably THE most fundamental of techniques to understand when learning to paint with watercolor. Although I have watched literally dozens of tutorials on the subjects, it was not until I saw the two you made that I finally grokked the fullness, and can now consistently produce both kinds of washes. The key is that unlike the other tutorials I have watched, which concentrated principally on the brush and the paper, and the movement of the water on the paper (both of which are certainly important!) keeping both of those in view throughout the video, you also kept the palette, with its water mixing, in view throughout. That, along with your excellent narrated exposition, has finally given me an understanding of water handling when creating these washes that has escaped me heretofore. Thank you! Liked and subscribed...
As a beginner, I really appreciate the basics! Thanks!
definitely going to try
This may be the most basic wash but this is what most people will get it wrong. You made it look so easy and made a simple graded wash so stunning... WOW!!!!

This is such useful basic watercolour tutorial! Thank youuu
Thank you for this! watercolour is tough for me but I'm really trying to do better at it :) I love your tutorials, for me they're all super easy to follow and pick up on because sometimes I just need to watch someone do a thing without overly describing every step they are about to take. I loveeee seeing how your colours turn out in the end especially
Love the way you are doing these graded watercolor washes! Was using a brown WC paper & put a very light wash of yellow green (didn’t really show) but when got the the purple (bottom green mixed w the purple) & got that muddy look. Never would have thought to put that last color over other so choosing the layers of colors is where I get confused! Try to stay close on color wheel but now know do not put green under purple! Tyvm.
wt I just watched one of these water color vids and now my recommended is filled with watercolor stuff xD

As a beginner I've really struggled with graded washes, and this is the first time I've had success after a lot of videos. Your technique works beautifully, thanks for taking the time to share it.
Thank you so much for this lesson. I always loved watercolour but I always have the fear of overdoing my backgrounds and I always ruined it. But since I watched your video, I now understand what to do. And now I’m not so afraid to do the backgrounds anymore. And they look great. Thank you so much! Your a really great artist and teacher. 😊
Thanks for sharing this video

Huge fan :) been following you for the past few months and you have inspired me to start painting with my daughter. We inherited a bunch of old watercolors, but they were the hard cake form. I see you using the tube water color here, do you ever play around with the dry cake paints? Not sure what the benefits of it are other than portability.
thanks
What is the teal colour you used? It's not in your description and its gorgeous
As I m begginer it was so helpful It was super
Love this, thank you! How do you use it in projects? I feel the taping technique is very risky for the result
Wow
nice amethyst
nice video
Thank you so much for more basics tutorials! Questions: what consistency does the paint need to be too but wash out or be too pigmented, and how do you keep the set layers from mixing or lifting with the second layers? Or is it just the specific paint brands? Thank you!
@KimberlyCrick
7 жыл бұрын
Most importantly the first layer of watercolor needs to be completely dry before doing the next layer. You don't move the brush around a lot or hard with pressure, so usually the bottom layer stays put. The brand of watercolor should not matter, however if you are finding a certain color is lifting/reactivating/mixing with the top layer too much you can find a more "staining" color by looking at the color chart on the watercolor brand's website. All colors are usually rated as "staining" if they stain the paper, making them easier not to lift. I use this technique with both diluted paints and applied more saturated without problem as long as they are dry between layers and you don't scrub with your brush.
Nice to look at, good video greetings! ^^♥
i love you and ur vids it inspires me to draw more :) pls reply
420 glaze it. haha. I dont know what I am doing online anymore. :( I love this video though, amazing work!
Thanks for the video ! I didnt see, did you wet the red wash with clear water to go ver it with the second yellow wash ? I had the impression it was wet on dry. Thank you ! Also, what yellow are you using in this video please ? Thank you !
Ever since i got a watercolor pad 2 days ago. It made me think of practicing non stop😂. But i have school work to do and have school to go to. Lol
