Lot ZamRa I agree! So many negative comments but they don’t understand Marie’s methods. The point isn’t just to shove as much shit in the suitcase as you can possibly fit- any idiot can do that. Marie is showing us how to pack an efficient, organised suitcase with CARE. I love her new Netflix series as she seems like such a sweet and calm person.

While I didn’t learn any new organizing techniques from Kondo, she did teach me to calm down, relax and find joy and satisfaction in such tasks. You never know what you might find and learn if you open your mind and listen.

Why do you guys need to knock her methods down? I’m happy that so many of you guys have been kindly taught how to pack this way. I, and many others have not been so lucky. She is doing what all of you who are criticizing her for are not: educating people. That is powerful and beautiful. I am grateful there are videos on the internet teaching people how to make scrambled eggs. Sure, I learned that at a young age, but because I was taught. I’m not going to go to a scrambled eggs and say, “Well... that’s just how you make eggs.. duh? “ These kinds of videos are for those who, for whatever reason, have not been fortunate to learn these skills and should be treated with respect.

If you grew up never traveling, never having to actually pack a suit case, never seeing anyone in your family do so, not even packing to sleep over at someone's place, you won't know how to do it or details most consider basic knowledge about packing like this. Similarly, regardless of expressing interest in cooking, you were never actually taught how to fry an egg, boil it or scramble it, and you end up needing Google and these kinds of videos.

Yep, and we need to remember that parents don't teach their children these kinds of things anymore and people don't seek information from books much anymore so online is now the easiest way to learn things people once routinely learned by age 10 or so.

I think the comments need to realise that Marie isn’t just about being efficient it’s being organised. Sure, I fit more stuff in my suitcase by rolling it and squeezing it and shoving everything into every crack and crevice that I can- I’d never pack like Marie because I’m always trying to shove in as much as I can. But when I arrive at my destination, it’s a pain in the ass to find everything I need quickly. People are saying that this simply looks better, but that’s kind of the point...

JennyWas13 It takes getting used to. First time around I folded my clothes for my closet/wardrobe I felt like was going to forget what things were. That I wouldn’t remember if it was a top or a dress, the length etc. But now I know my clothes Well so I can tell exactly what everything are even when ”rolled up”. So if you can tell at a glance then this is wonderful as it is not just ”Rolling” but folding in a way it Will stand on its own so that if you pull something out the rest will remain exactly as they were. Kondo isnt just organising it is kinda a change in lifestyle. A complete make-over your home that forced a make-over of you too as you understand yourself and your actions better.

I tend to roll instead of file fold because I'm plus sized and my clothes are bulky but I used a lot of her techniques and was able to fit an entire week long trip into my small carry on and my backpack, even left some space for some souvenirs. I think all that I would do differently or add would be role hosiery (tights, stockings, socks) and shove them in your shoes to save even more space

her folding methods and decluttering has helped me to halve my entire wardrobe and shoe collection in a slow process of two years and help me to realise ' to use / buy what i only need ' . I think it’s a great way of packing! I lead student tours in Europe and I insist that my travelers only bring a carry-on bag because not all hotels have elevators and a lot of the time the rooms are tiny. Bringing a big suitcase just isn’t practical. I had been having the kids roll their clothes but since I learned Marie’s method of folding, I will teach them how to pack like this! Merci beaucoup Ms. Kondo!

For myself--an elderly female who enjoys sampling different ways to organize--I like to browse through many videos and systems. Usually a few ideas will appeal; some flatly DO NOT. In the end I get concepts which I adapt to my own preferences. This is also true in other aspects of life like cooking, wardrobe selections, etc. I have never found ONE COMPLETE SYSTEM for my needs. Thank you authors and videographers for providing ideas which I can work with but do not replace my own ingenuity!

"Azadeh Nikou" there is always one thing or other. I think that to save space in a suitcase or backpack or whatever, it is best to bring what you need. Items such as cosmetics are a luxury and it has always surprised me how women try so hard to being cosmetics along. I spent some time in the military and I saw some female soldiers pack things like different kinds of shampoo, conditioners, hair curlers, cosmetic kits with nail polish, skin creams, compacts, and blow dryers (and back then they were larger ) etc etc. Oddly they were willing to carry their heavy duffel bags filled with these things besides clothes such as dresses and high heel shoes. I have on occasion come across women who claim that they never used cosmetics in their lives. I think that dresses are even useless to bring for travel. They are meant to wear if you are not moving and/or if you don't need to carry things or if you don't need to run quickly to catch an airplane or walk around in hot weather sightseeing or in the sun etc. Of course it could always depend. Maybe if you are a model who has to bring dresses to be photographed in.. but the most practical clothes to bring are those meant for active wear, such as hiking pants or khakis, safari or trekking shirts. Maybe someone ought to make a video showing how much lighter a person can pack leaving out cosmetics and unnecessary fancy clothes.

I'd like a sweatshirt and pull version, I particularly travel in winter and it so difficult to me to organize my suitcase

Rolling clothes as neat and small as possible, organized and placed in travel cubes. Stuff like make up and chargers in their own pouches. Bra bag with undies/socks to save space (like the video). Shoes in thin bags (like the video again). That's how I do it. Everything stays in place, fast to take in and out, easy to find things

I recently had to pack three suitcases to relocate from far away to another far away. The rolling method is very common. However, to travel light not to have to pay for the excess luggage, the first planning must lie with how minimalistic you will live. If you have the three sets of every wardrobe, no make up, and practicality to give away the old ones to the needy, and procure the new stuff at the new destination, the packing is so easy and light. The mental transformation is most needed. The rolling method can be the thing of the past. Be generous to share your affluence.

I would like her to show how to pack like this for long trips. I’m going on a mission trip for 11 days to Europe and I’m generally a heavy packer so I’d like to see a video for that (Let me know though if she already has one up about it.)

You can skip ahead/go back in 10 second increments by pressing the directional arrows on your keyboard (left arrow for back, right arrow for ahead). There's also another way but I cannot recall. Just do an online search. This is also presuming you're viewing on a laptop or device with a keyboard. If you're viewing on a mobile device, simply tap the screen while video is playing. I hope that's what you meant 😬 Enjoy the KonMari endeavors. My daughter, mother of four young children including a 2-month old, has been doing this method and loves it and now I am also. My knickers drawer has never looked so damn good!

From my experience, I always organised my suitcase depends on how long I go. Partly I do like her,but partly no. I always give sections like a blue print of a house(pyjamas secrion, casual section, toiletries section ,shoes section, charger+gadgets, sometimes foods sections😁) for my clothing if I just away 2-3 days. So I don't need to take & hang all my clothes and make messy. You know, we always feel lazy when back to hotel & it's just short trip to waste time on packing our suitcase😅 How you fold,it's up to you make use the space. Usually if I need to go more than 2 nights, I will hang my clothes in hotel's wardrobe, so I bought few travel bags with different sizes & thats very helpful for me. Again how to fold it,it's up to you to make use the spaces. Good thing, the travel bag always come with labelling/naming,easily to take out your things & not messy your things. For your gadgets, its better use clear bag like her,so easily to spot what we want or remind us when packing up to check out.
