Footnotes
1 - Afiyet olsun (Enjoy your meal / Bon appétit): In Turkish, we can say this before, during or after the meal.
2 - Tipping in Turkey: Tipping is entirely optional in Turkey. Leaving a tip will be considered nice, but not leaving a tip won’t be considered rude in most places.

HAHAHA Berkin's internal monologue is my favourite 😂😂😂not just because it's so funny, but also because it teaches us more than just vocabularies for "ordering food" 😄 Easy Turkish's skits are the BEST!

Oh you forgot the part of the dialog when they start asking tourists 'where you are from' etc... lol I have just returned from Alanya and I did get a chance to practise a little bit and I think it makes Turkish people happy when you try to speak Turkish. Well, just like in any country. In one lokanta I tried to order take away kebab in Turkish (I learned to say paket olsun lutfen for 'take away, please') and they were so happy and called me abla and made me sit and have tea while I waited! Also I haven't heard anyone saying POS device, everyone just says 'kart' meaning payment by 'card'. Lovely people, difficult life, currency is going crazy but everyone tries to smile and show hospitality.

Thanks for the video! It's still a challenge for me to understand when the speech is this fast, but the subtitles make it easy for me to pause and break down the sentences. Amerika'dan selamlar! 🇺🇸🇹🇷

Actually speech is kinda slow. Issue is translation Eng-Tr Tr-Eng (Beginner Approach and the most challenging part for learners.) Indo-European languages are easily convertible to each other through dictionary, similar grammar structures, same logic but Turkish is another story... Different mindset is required. One word gives so many message that English mind using 5-6 six separate word for that. i.e Kedidir -- I think/suppose it was a cat. 0.2 sec vs 2 sec... When the brain tried to translate, it fails. Turkish aims efficiency. Less bullet more pew pew. English aims precision. Exact bullet for every exact target. How can Turkish Language is so efficient when we talking ? Trusting receiver iq, knowledge and sense --Throw away most common words---(-a, the, plural -s ...) We don't use most common words of Modern Languages, Cuz subconsciously we pretend everyone knows or grasp it from context anyway. --Don't use personal or object pronouns unless you need specifically --Don't use so many prepositions, describe general location would be suffice. (Turkish logic: İf i say arabada, i dont have to say in, on, under etc. Trusting your intelligence. After all why should i care to say ''in''. you are smart enough the complete the missing part or u have ability to use general sense or image ) --Use general tense for nearly everything. --Adopt Flexible word order. You can talk like yoda --Flexible words. --- Word can be various meaning depend on context --Lego type words -- You can create new words with grammar rules. -- Natives don't care grammar, harmony and other rules comes naturally. --Focus to create less noise, less mouth movement but give huge deep message in short way via metaphors, idioms. 2-3 year old Turkish child learn ''how to speak'' faster than any other European kids. Why ? due to nature of the language but at the age of 10 , The Turkish children lag behind other children in understanding what they read even in their mother tongue. Why ? due to nature of the language. Turkish was like designed for speaking . Force you to think through metaphors - to understand the other person's intentions and complete missing pieces for the situation. Cn yu ndrstnd ths mssg ? Our brain completes missing parts.

yeah, the speech is rather slow when it comes to words per time. But the rate of syllables per time is still quite high. This aspect of Turkish is something I consider noteworthy, especially when Turks speak at full speed 🙂.

i personally never give tips. but some restaurants appreciate %10 tip. depends on restaurant/cafe, touristic places cost more than regular ones but has better service. i heard some restaurants nowadays add tips in check so you pay it anyway
