Nailed it. You are so correct and wise, I am sharing this video with my shrink because she told me the same, Upgrade your life. Once your needs are met you're not in survival mode anymore and you feel better and you can be you, let the creativity flow. I've been living in my van for 5 or 6 years now and I'm about to do a full remodel, I'm tearing the walls out. I bought all the dream equipment, it's just that I live in the van, so I'm just waiting for mother nature to warm up Wisconsin so I can move into a tent and start the demolition. And I did get the incinerating toilet, 2,000watt solar (I will have to do a sliding solar panel awning), all the Victron gear, 1,200w wind, 10kwh of self-heating batteries, a King size purple mattress, a dual motor e-bike (so fast that I had to buy a $100 dollar helmet and $220 in locks), Maxxair Deluxe, and some other stuff. All in storage, but the bike, until it gets a little warmer, and it will get warmer and I'm excited to tear out the walls and start anew. Tory Delury YOU ROCK.

Your video are very down to earth and real-life situations you deal with in van life living. Your videos are so much more real about what it takes every day to live the van life, and I'm happy that you're showing us your side of how much work goes into doing this lifestyle. I hope that during the night that you're in the city near other people just in case you need help. Please be safe and be careful. I like the diy videos that you've done on various topics on the van building and trying to make your van safer, and thing that you need to make the van a lot more comfortable to live in. I so hear you. I shifted from a large family home to a caravan in my quest to circumnavigate Australia as a retiree. I have all the mod cons you are working towards but still. Even with all the mod cons there were the unexpected emotions. Like mild feelings of claustrophobia or trying to maintain a sense of privacy. The one thing I found was staying in one spot too long is not so healthy. You don't have the family/community connections and though you're seldom alone you can become lonely. Connecting to strangers is like ships in the night so my next challenge is to meet and connect to fellow travellers heading in my direction, bonds form and meeting up again is always a high. Next relocating, the real attraction of travelling in a van. I have found planning one or two locations to explore ahead is perfect. I'm travelling the Southwest corner of Western Australia and the land and sea scapes mixed with an incredible diversity of wildlife including nocturnal is constant and spiritually very rewarding. I don't think I could live in a suburban house again, not least living in a big home alone without the connection to nature or to become so familiar with my surroundings that there are few challenges. I have a couple of hobbies in photograph and astronomy that were a bit pricey to set up but free to maintain and very rewarding and it's great my grandkids can both stay connected and share old Poppy's adventures. So now I feel free, and alive. As we Aussies always say, onwards and forwards. Happy travels young lady and good luck with your adventures.

A sun shade, folding table, a couple chairs makes for a pretty great living room. A 5 gallon water bottle gets me a shower every day in my outdoor shower. Just pick a pretty spot to park, add a hike for exercise...life is meant to be enjoyed...ENJOY

Address your shortcomings, see what can be changed or adapted, and discard the baggage. Then as you said, "Why am I doing this?'. Healthy mind, body, and spirit. In short, it's what we older people call, LIFE! We're only on this planet for a short period. Love the people we know, be curious about the ones you don't.

What I’ve gotten out of this is van-build-life can go one of two ways, full-time while you live in a “non-movable” home OR do it the way you’re doing it. I think you’ve chosen the road less traveled, so to speak. Which way is better? It’s different for everyone. Oh, the seat needs to be higher on the bike, your legs should only be bent slightly when they are at the bottom of the ‘rotation’. Hang in there Tory 🤗

Perhaps doubling as a outdoor kitchen or shower/bathroom. 🛁 Or spare popup bedroom? How will you keep things cool in the summer? See North Carolina as a base for.dance classes or Metro Atlanta. Wherever you make a home, there can be dance. Brighton, Michigan has some great studios and teachers. See Kathy King here.

Building a van takes a very long time, and even if you finish your van you will never have the confort as living in an appartment or house. I sugest, to get a bucket, toilet seat, and a few disposable liners. Start insulating. Once you have the walls and insulation the other stuff should be easy.

I recently found you Tory, and Id offer to help you with your van build, but Im sure you have it handled. I will just say if you dont want your van falling apart, as you are driving down the road, use glue on every joint. Also, dont put your frig, next to your oven, because they will be using allot of electricity trying to battle against each other... One is trying to produce heat while the is trying to stay cold... LoL

Tory... Would you like a place to set up shop, work, and NOT have to pack everything up just to go use a restroom? I have space, (at my house) I feel it would expedite your build. Electric, water etc etc... You could even use my RV that's 30 yards from my actual house, on the property for convenience. I'm 2 hours south (off the 15) from Las Vegas. My place is semi-secluded with no neighbors within a couple hundred yards. I have a Home Depot locally. I've thought about this, and offering a work location.

You seem scattered, like your buying a little of everything for the entire picture while your build hasn't gone further then a few steps. Build a bed platform, then designate a place for your fridge. draw out a picture or a floor plan for what you want to build and do each thing so your not overwhelmed with odds and ends of partial aspects of your build.

I want as little as possible and for everything to fit in an SUV. So that way I can get to more places. And I want to be encouraged to be outside as much as I can. Sleep in a tent as much as possible, hike as much as possible, etc. If I have a full van filled with everything I need, I'd never want to leave lol

Tory, glad you got a bike! I’ve been a cyclist for many years. I suggest raising your saddle a bit more. Your legs should be slightly bent at the knees while riding, but the saddle should be low enough so you can still get on/off the bike. Enjoy!

I’m not a van life person but as a truck driver I understand moving around. Gypsy blood seems to be 1-100000 people and those people have a constant need to change their surroundings. Before driving a truck I use to change cities around every 6 months. Now I get paid for the gypsy blood curse. 30 years of trucking and now I’m worried about retiring and whether the wife will want to move around in an rv. Well there’s always 2-3 months a year going to Europe to live…oh yea a split curtain black behind seats works well. A good cheap fridge ekojuce 12v with plug or lighter adapter works well $150-180

I have a trick to reheat your pizza. Put aluminum foil on top and set it on your dash against your windshield. 15 minutes if not cold.

People don't suck, i do. lol i prefer to spend time alone with myself and if that includes doing nothing so be it, i am well versed in it. The only thing that would push me into van life, would be if my rent increased it would catapult me into that life style. i don't think i would take the time to build i would possibly find something that is already to go, number #1 thing would be a toilet, i can find a place to shower (GYM) and would make do with camping style cooking #2 electrical system, and everything else will eventually come into play by itself. Thanks for Sharing... Be safe and happy easter.

Use them boxes as containers or to layout how you want the van to look buy cutting them apart to the shape you need. Edit---cardboard is stronger than you think.

I actually ended up keeping them to use as templates for when I need to cut out the wood for my sliding door & back door! My storage unit is packed now 😅 But it will definitely be worth it! For sure, great way to reuse the boxes!
