This is actually helpful for someone going from a physical sim to an eSIM. I wasn’t too sure how this would work. Thank you for posting this for people with older iPhones.

Agreed! I unfortunately had to leave my 15 PM home to go to work as I had to wait 2 hours over my time for work, and I just got my screen and lens protector on, then started set up, the eSIM swap was quick! I thought I would have to be on the phone forever but it just asked if I wanted to swap sims and now it’s updating and my lovely 12 PM will hopefully be fixed (camera glass broke, needs replacement camera too I assume) and sold to someone else. This phone has done me well, I have always hated the connectivity compared to my Note 9 though. Here’s to the 15 being better!

Excellent video. You described everything exactly. I just got my iPhone 15 pro max today and transferred everything from my 14 pro max. Luckily I figured it out and the new iPhone 15 pro max guided me through. The way you explained it was very helpful and from step by step was excellent. You’re the best tech video out there. I’m trying to transfer only contacts and pics , will transferring through iCloud only do that ? I don’t want to transfer all the apps or other things I don’t use

Very informative video. I was a little apprehensive about transferring an eSIM as I heard last year it was a huge mess getting it set up. I’m considering getting an iPhone 15 and now I’m more convinced it’ll be a smooth transition from my iPhone XR. Definitely have to give it to Apple moving from one iPhone to another is very simple and effective.

Hi Aaron! What if we try a data cable between old and new iphone ? Will it work or can be faster ?

I just upgraded to the iPhone 15 Pro from iPhone 12. Transfer went very smoothly after upgrading to iOS 17.0.2. No data loss in the transfer...even kept custom ringtone. I used the iCloud method, as with all of my previous iPhones. Only minor downside is to re-sign into some of my apps.

okay so i have the 12 pro max and it has a sim slot so im assuming its not available for esim right? but what ur saying is the icloud method works anyway? good to know!

I backed up on my Mac and then plugged in my new one and selected the date and time. The eSim had a little snag but it works now.

Very helpful content as new iPhone 15 pro coming today.

Great content. Just a heads up that if you want to return the 15 Pro and go back to an earlier phone, you can't go back if it is running 17.0.1 since the 15 Pro is on 17.0.2. Restoring won't work until they are both on the same software number 🤬

@zollotech Aaron, have you noticed with ios17 custom and purchased text tones are gone? You can see them under ringtones, but you cannot select them as text tones.

Oh man, I was looking for this video yesterday. I thought transfering data directly from one phone to another was faster than via iCloud. Now I know better. Unfortunately, I started the transfer before watching this video. At the beginning I got a message that my phone number could not be transferred. I'm hoping I can do it smoothly right after transfering everything. I'm moving from iPhone 14 Pro Max to 15 Pro Max with an eSim. I wanted to ask you, if you're upgrading both your iPhone and Apple Watch, is there a preferred sequence? Does it make a difference if you move to the new watch first or to the new phone first?

Good video. I believe it's also a good idea to to disable Find My on the old phone prior to resetting.

Wouldn’t a transfer from a backup on the Mac be better on the new phone? For reference I’m currently using the iPhone 11 and when I upgraded to this phone, while using the direct transfer data it didn’t transfer everything so I had to factory reset and upload the backup from my Mac. Not sure if that’s still the same or not. I’ve got a 15 pro on order so I was wondering which would be the best method

Transfer was pretty smooth with no issues, Apple Watch was were problems started. Had to wipe watch clean and add it as new watch. Thought there would be an easier way ?

Do you have to sign out of Apple ID on the old phone before doing a factory reset? In case I wish to sell the old phone, the new owner shouldn’t face issues.

I never really use iCloud storage so it only has the 5 GB free. Can I back up to my computer, then move the data that way? I didn't see an option to transfer data from computer in the options in the video.

Hi Just a quick question since downloading iOS 17 i have been having serious issues with my Bluetooth dropping and playing randomly music on my EarPods. I have to go into settings select blue turn off ear pods select iPhone just to get music or alarms through my phone. This is very annoying as i have a diabetic scanner which should update constantly but often it’s lost signal has anyone else experienced bluetooth issues?

what do you do with your older iphones

When you choose to erase all content and settings does that automatically turn off your find my feature on the old phone or do I still need to turn off Find My feature prior to a complete erase? I'm upgrading from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 15 plus and wasn't sure. I'm trading the 11 in with my carrier and wanted to make sure I did disable the Find My feature.

Isn't it still the case that the esim transfer may require doing it through the carrier app and not work using that method?

I got mine right after it asked to transfer phone number

I went from a 14 Pro to the 15 Pro (eSIM to eSIM). I’m keeping the 14. When I went to erase it, the option to keep or delete the eSIM came up. I kept it the eSIM. Was that the correct option?

I have been waiting for your video since morning here in the UK as my 15 Pro was delivered today. Had to transfer from 13 Pro to 15 Pro on my own 😭
