I got a targeted offer for my Prime Rewards Visa for 5% back on utilities through end of summer. Having a card that is 5% on utilities year round is huge though since that tends to be a larger monthly expense for most.

So what was the recommendation on which card to use for 5% CB on utils all year? You said the USB Cash+ but then you said you don't like it because you have to pick your categories every quarter. So, is there another card?? Also, your calculation of 3.08% is very flawed. Your example of savings giving 2.57% apy is an annual rate. The 5% CB you'd get from paying your monthly bill is a monthly rate. In essence, getting 5% every month is essentially equal to a 60% APY! Or, you can look at the 2.57% apy as a 0.21% monthly yield. The 5% is 25x better. You're always better off taking the 5% even if that means prepaying and not keeping your money in savings, even if your savings account provided 5% apy. ;)
