You live in CA, try doing that in Texas when the AC is on 20 hours per day..... I'd be interested to see how that would change the cost

  • @BeatTheBush

I would try to balance out the solar size to the exact AC usage plus some more for when the sun is down. You can even use the hybrid inverter I have on 'batteryless' mode and it can further reduce cost.

this would be a bit cheaper for me because i already have some parts. i have the wire cutter, hammer crimper and a hydraulic crimper, 0 gauge ring terminals. 0 gauge wire. i already have a small bank of 3 lead acid batteries on a solar panel and a 2400w inverter.

You could backfeed into main panel with CT's and set export to zero. This would get your entire house on solar/batteries with no net metering or export. If power ever went out you can then manually change over to be off grid.

He knows little about how much you should discharge the batteries. The 20%discharge rule is really applicable to lead acid batteries. Lithium are quite capable of being heavily discharged without any serious negative effects on a regular basis. Please do your own investigation folks.

Im a old electrician and failing at my math / this is my idea i need help with / i want to use the grid to charge batteries to run a inverter to power a two 30amp 120v outlets (one for my camper and the other for a shed for my goats)and i want to know if it will cut down on my grid cost to do this / so far no one can answer this / i live in the woods so solar is not a good way to go

How much investment return do you get from your car? Most people have to count it as a loss if not used as a business expense. If you use your computer for your buisness , maybe you can use solor as a buisness expense.

I like your setup, but does this mean you are dragging extension cords all over the house whenever you need to use a device? Also, what about air conditioning? I’m assuming you don’t need it? (That sounds crazy to a guy that lives in S Florida).

  • @BeatTheBush

You wasted your money on that cheap high frequency, transformerless inverter because you'll never be able to power your home's high inductance loads and you'll be lucky if you get even 2cyears of life expectany from it. You would be far better off replacing it with a low frequency, transformer based inverter charger.

His payback estimate doesn't take reliability and maintenance into account. This is consumer grade tech and some parts will fail out of warranty and need to be replaced which will increase ROI. I don't think it makes sense yet for the typical household.

  • @25566
    @25566Күн бұрын

It doesn't unfortunately. Even with their crazy 43 cent per kw, now in other countries it's more like 12 cents or even lower. No ROI

  • @BeatTheBush

I'll report back if anything fails. Seems like the inverter would be most likely to fail first but one year of usage would cover that part in full already.

If I make it until September it will be 3 years. The only issue I have had is with the combiner box. I smoked one of the back flow diodes. And I had a loose wire that caused an arc that melted one of the DC breakers. It's possible that the loose connection is what smoked the back flow diode. The loose connection was my fault. I have purchased a back up solar charge converter in case mine does die. As far as ROI I'm looking at 7 years. With 3 in the bank 4 more years is definitely within reach.

Interesting video. It makes lots of sense that you would not say too much bc you do not want to influence others on such a speculative crypto. Also, good that you did not use your influence to promote any crypto. People do very financially irresponsible things and any crypto is highly speculative. It can ruin a person financially.

I’m sure that you get lots of viewers who are part of the financial independence retire early set. Working is purposeful and quitting a lucrative career like engineering can be tough bc it may be difficult to get back in later on. Whatever you end up doing, hopefully, you find happiness in it. KZread comments can be so toxic bc people are mostly anonymous. Your idea about a way to filter out the nasty comments makes lots of sense. The pandemic was such a major disruption to normal life. Perhaps now you will find ways to feel better and find a purposeful way to use your time to feel fulfilled.

Hello. Nice video. Definitely reinforce the structure for solar panels. As you said- 10 year ROI for you. But after (probably sooner) 10 years you will need to replace batteries and after about 5-7 years your inverter will break so that is the biggest problem with solar systems. Batteries and inverter will break earlier than you will get your money back. So after 10 years you will need to upgrade system components. I am not against solar systems because it is great idea- but it depends on everybody personal situation.

Great video and would enjoy hearing more about your system. Love your strategy of doing solar, identifying devices to use on battery power with PG&E as a backup. It must make you feel really good every month you receive your PG&E bill 😊 I have PG&E too and this month (May/2024) tier 1 price is 43 cents per kW and tier 2 is 53 cents. Every time the rates go up your pay back period gets shorter. Secure your panels, medium to high winds will lift them right off. Wonderful job.
