How to Manage Multiple Interests Part 1 | The Foundation

Despite what people may say, YOU CAN become good in multiple areas and hobbies.
Many people belive you have to be lackluster if you have too many passions but that's not true.
It really comes down to removing barriers and valuing the time you have,
so I want you to focus on that aspect for now.
----
It's difficult but extremely effective. Much like many things you'll find on my channel.
00:00 You can be REALLY good at multiple things. Don't believe otherwise.

This is the journey that I’m on. I’ve chosen the next 12 weeks to really embrace who I am with my multiple hobbies and interests and want / need to become amazing at language, memory, music and athletics

Awesome! it's definitely very difficult starting out, but like I said, overtime it's the most fulfilling thing you can do! Just be easy on yourself and you'll get there in due time.

Great video, Vaughn! I've felt the same way - I don't want to just dabble in different hobbies, I want to be really good at each one of them. Seems like the general consensus is that you have to compromise and be mediocre in most things if you have multiple interests - really excited to see that there's someone out there who's proving that wrong, and excelling in multiple areas! The concept of creating a character is really helpful. I feel like it's a good shorthand for the big picture of what you're trying to achieve, which makes it easier to stay on track. I also appreciate how you made it clear that the beginner phase will be really difficult, progress will be slow at first, and the rewarding part of this process probably won't happen until later. You're not trying to sell anyone on the idea, you're genuinely trying to help people who already click with it. And above all, your calm, down-to-earth speaking style makes me feel like I'm chatting with a good friend. Looking forward to the rest of this series :)

Thanks Jade! That means a lot. I definitely want to stay as transparent as possible with the topics I bring up, so I’m glad it helps. I notice that trend as well (forced to be mediocre if you like multiple things), which I disagree with, so I hope to shed more light on that to help others. Thanks again!

4:53 You're absolutely right here. I practice art, writing, rapping, English (Its a second language for me), Deutsch (third language) and i like reading voraciously. Sometimes i try to be a regular dude but i just don't feel right. 6:53 I sacrificed movies/TV to increase my practice time. But i haven't gotten rid of or reduced social media yet. I have to also work on that.

That’s awesome!, pretty diverse stack for you so you’ll benefit a lot from that. And yeah naturally you’ll reduce your time in other things. Social media is probably the hardest one because it’s so easy to access, but just allow it to phase away as you grow in the other areas. That was the hardest for me also btw.

@@vaughngene 💪🏽 Facts. Very addictive stuff. When I was younger I didn't have gadgets, tools for practice, lots of free time and everything. I thought having all that would make my progress very smooth and eliminate all problems. Now I have gadgets, tools for practice and a fairly good amount of time but I'm still struggling. I guess problems never end 😂

@@tonydambe Yeah you are right, distractions that are easy to grab are dangerous Lol, I think the biggest battle these days is just getting to the distractions(social media) only AFTER we check all our boxes for the day. That’s how I approach it all least.

Hi Vaughn, I really appreciate your insight - this was a great video! I feel lucky to have stumbled upon your channel. Do you have any advice about being too self critical? What would you recommend to someone who is minimizing their own effort or achievements by attributing them to luck rather than merit? How do you "be on your own team" and cultivate a sense of self advocacy or support?

  • @vaughngene

Thank you! And yes absolutely, I do want to make a video on this topic so I will probably prioritize it a bit more. But I would say come to an understanding that everyone has advantages and disadvantages in life, we all have them so just work your way up to understanding that, That is how we are all made. As far as something actionable you can do now; Whenever you complete/work on things for the day, Write down areas that you improved on, even if it’s just small improvements. This helps you see easier the things that aren’t just “given” to you in a sense. Hope that helps! But this is a video I’ll probably make quite soon to explain more. 👌

Hey thank you! I’m actually a big supporter of complete rest. 6-8 hours a sleep per night, maybe more if my body is telling me so. But I don’t think any quality work can come from a lack of rest. Maybe a day or two at the most but overall rest should definitely be a priority. Just make every hour count when you are awake 👌, Hope that helps!

I’d say double down on half your list for now, or just 1 or 2 things. Then when you get more time someday, you’ll be good at those to the point where you can do other things. And those original items will only require upkeep (which isn’t as much time needed). However I don’t have kids, so this is just me theory thinking Lol. This is just what I did when I was in the military with consistent 10+ hour days.
