THIS IS A MUST SEE FOLKS !
This video shows How To Make Your Own Foodsaver Bags
Here's a great hack for you how to make your own foodsaver bags.
Vacuum Seal Ziplock Freezer Bags with foodsaver vacuum sealer.
You can use foodsaver with ziplock bags form the Dollar store just get the thickest they have.
I have also used Uline food grade bags (cheap sometimes)
This is a perfect food storage 2020 tip all can use.
Just always use the fine ribs from the top of the bags as the air channels.

I’ve had several different models of Foodsaver vacuum sealers over the last 15 years. kzread.infoUgkxLarn2Zt7095D2lp3tN-bj5JtYPg3Wz2 I picked up the Nesco unit because it consistently receives top reviews it all across the Internet. You are better off with a chamber sealer. Machine will cost more but you can get regular 5 mil bags for about .01 cent each and a chamber sealer will do soups , stews, you can even seal gallon bags of water.

For freezing soups, sauces, fruit etc. Hubby puts it in a ziplock bag, freezes it for a few days and then opens the ziplock bag and puts it in the vacuum seal bags. I order pre-made bags I buy my bags in bulk from a company in California called DOUG CARE. Been buying from them for years. They sell sealing. Machines and a varity of bag styles, sizes and thicknesses. FYI...I am only a customer of theirs, I'm not a representative, influencer, etc.

I bought a vacuum sealer from Aldi's last week for $29.99. I have always wanted one but did not want to pay upwards of $150. With the crazy increase in the cost of food, I am more conscious of buying items when on sale. The sealer allows me to buy larger quantities and freeze for longer periods. Als ol for refrigerator items, especially cheese. I can extend it's life before it turns green (i.e. bad) by vacuum sealing each time after opening the cheese.
I'm probably a little over excited about this but I have to say WOW! I'm gluten free but my hubby isn't. When I bake a batch of cookies there is no way I can eat them all by myself in time. This worked amazingly well and now I have nice size portions in the freezer. This cuts the cost of the more expensive bags that I will continue to use for heavy duty items. Brilliant! Thank You

Also let the heat strip cool well between processing bags. They get pretty hot and will melt the bag after the 3-4th ones. Double bag for better storage if going over 6 months or so
Great tip thanks. I have done something similar but instead of using the ribbed pieces of the freezer bag I used pieces of a food saver bag that has the texture to allow the air to be removed.

Thanks! I reuse my vac bags several times. When I cut off the top to get the food inside, I use that strip to seal ziploc or other heavy freezer type bags, like you do in the video. Boy, does it save money!
Finally! Somebody has said why those strips go in the bag… To channel out the air… I seen this done before, but nobody ever said why, and I didn’t figure it out on my own. So thank you so much for making that comment about channeling the air. Quite clever, the person who figured out that method of using a Ziploc bag.

It is a good idea for certain items. And for others, even IF you buy PREMIUM freezer bags you have to be careful of how you handle the bags when going through your freezer moving items around looking for certain items. As even using good to premium freezer bags, when filled with hard, frozen foods become very delicate and susceptible to abrasions that go right through those bags if bags are slid, shifted, bumped or banged into each other. And you KNOW how when you stack bags of food in your freezer, once frozen don't exactly just move freely without scraping against or banging into other bags. And that's when said abrasions scrape or poke holes in the bags.
Thanks for posting you saved everyone a small fortune in oem bags, I tried this with a bit of finicky results, but I found something that worked first time every time, that's using a 1 1/4"x8" strip of 3/16 bubble wrap from the office supply store. It melts perfect since it thinner than the bag

I have the same vacuum sealer as you. If you remove the two black foam rings from the top of the lid and bottom, rinse them off and reinstall, the vacum will stop when complete instead of continuously running and you have to hit the button to start the seal process. I think the foam padding wears out over time and allows air to pass during the vacum and sealing process. This works for me. Thanks for the video.

I also got one from Aldi a few days ago. I wanted vacuum for sous vide cooking. I had been using a hand pump w/bags from Amazon or water displacement method. That didn’t always remove enough air and I had to clamp the bags down in the water. That can prevent water from circulating well around the bag.
