How to make Tostones

In this video I will be showing you how to making tostones. Tostones are twice fried green plantains that can be eaten as an appetizer or as a side with your favorite Puerto Rican meal, however this isn’t exclusive to Puerto Rican cuisine and can be eaten and found in many other Caribbean/ African meals.
When making these, make sure you grab green plantains and not cooking bananas which are also green. These may appear as the same to anyone who is new to making this however they are different. Also take note that when getting these, you will notice that though similar in look, plantains or Platanos, are bigger the appearance for the most part and it’s skin is thicker.
When making these, you will typically use one plantain per person. Also, you will need either a tostonera which is a presser we use to mash our plantains, or you can use a can, bowl or cup. Finally, to serve your Tostones, you can top these off with either salt, garlic salt and garnish with parsley or cilantro. You can enjoy these as is, with a KetchoMayo sauce or garlic sauce.
Currently, there is no video that I’ve made for the sauce only because it’s extremely easy to make but if you would like a video, just let me know in the comment section for either sauce. In the meantime I can leave you a very simple recipe in the meantime for you to follow.
For your KetchuMayo:
2 Tbsp mayonnaise
1 Tbsp ketchup
1 Tsp garlic powder
Salt/pepper to taste
A pinch of chopped cilantro
Mix together and serve

    Bb Williams and so simple to make! I guess I’ll be making the garlic sauce video soon. Ketchumayo isn’t my thing but the garlic sauce with these are phenomenal

    I like to sprinkle adobo onto my tostones instead of salt and brush a bit of olive oil and crushed/chopped garlic on top.

    Yes! I do the same sometimes. I wanted to just show the basic idea but maybe I’ll make another updated video doing it that way as well because especially the garlic, is the best way to eat them for me. 👌🏼
