The problem is if your song is not loud enough, like -20, -30. Some platforms will apply limiters, boosting the volume all over the place and could, theoretically, destroy your mix.

Awesome video!!! The thing about that analyzer too is that you can basically hear how it’d would sound on each platform, which if you don’t want them to turn your song down, you can mix the song perfectly by controlling frequencies so it is as wide, punchy as possible, etc. Great vid bro!

The Weeknd’s latest album on Spotify is -9 integrated LUFS and it’s nice and loud. Also, note that people who turn Audio Normalization off will get whatever LUFS you mastered your track to originally, so if they’re trying to turn up the volume of your album when they listen to it but you mastered it to -14 LUFS it’ll stay quite even if Audio Normalization is off. I believe that the most important standard to follow when mastering for streaming services is keeping tracks under -1.5 to -1 TPdB, because like you said you might run into distortion and they would have to turn your track down by 1 to 1.5 dB regardless of what loudness setting a user chooses or whether they have Audio Normalization on or off.

I recently performed a small test involving LUFS where I took a mastered drum loop, created and mastered my own drum loop that was similar, and then compared the meters and both loops came out at around -11 LUFS, seeing this video is just more confirmation I am on the right track! Also if anybody wants to steal this test idea it is a quick easy way to compare levels and you can do it with any instrument/sample. 😎

I put one of Wale’s songs in ozone 9’s reference for a master, and when I gain matched it distorted the hell of my track because of how loud it was. This was clearly analog summing implemented into HIS master a lot of folks sleep on that tbh. You can still get your music to streaming levels without this technique but just thought I’d chime in lol 💯

Its more for how much each dsp will lower ur song. Its pretty spot on when comparing on say youtube and when youtube is highlighted on the analyzer. Just dont listen to people saying "uPLoAd iT aT -14 LuFs cUz tHeY LowEr iT".. upload it as loud as u need it to be, usually -9 LUFS or lower so its comparable to commercial records.

  • @gusdee4844

@@alfonsbarcelon not sure what u mean but its legit, and helpful. KZread and all platforms are going to lower ur song no matter what. All it does is allow u to hear how low it'll sound after u upload. Then u can compare and reference with commercial records and note how low it makes their song. After that u tweak ur song/LUFS and get it to a comparable level if needed. Just make sure ur LUFS are around -8 to -9 and itll compete with the pros. Dont listen to people who say to upload at -14 LUFS cuz the platforn lowers it to that level anyway. Its not the same and we wonder why pros always sound so loud, its because they upload it loud lol

What I normally do is hit around 5 lufs and at the master volume leave between -7.94 and -8.48 then bring the threshold down in the master limiter plugin to compensate the volume loss without clipping and get a nice loud volume then check with the loudness meter analyzer to see if I comply.
