This Helps me A LOT. I used to only EQ with my ears and eyes but without any theory, I'm really excited to try this out rn. The only question that is left for me is in the 90hz below range. You've talked about how it could affect your vocal and that Room tones and the Low end rumble lie in that rnage. My Question is which specific upsides this range brings. Maybe not for Vocals but for other Instruments like basses. Thank you very much and greetings out of Germany.

Your kick usually hits around 60hz. Below that are also your sub frequencies. You can feel those in your body if you have a sub or big speakers.
@mmanimosity

The upside the lower range brings (90hz) is it makes your bass and kicks sound fuller and punchy as well.

@@lo-filogic so are u saying we shouldn't roll off 90hz and below because that would affect the kick?

So many, too many "pro" weekend hobbiest are out there giving advice not knowing what they're teaching. HelpMeDevon may not have as many years wasted in the studio as I have, (thank God), but he sure does have valuable advice! Apply what you heard here and you will save yourself years of working with a producer who is learning as he/she goes!😃
Devvon, I am a 70 year old rhythm guitarist in a band and songwriter with a very nice home studio. For years I have been concerned with the levels of each channel in relation to the others. EQ has always been a struggle, which was most often overlooked. This tutorial has given me the basics to go back to previously recorded band and solo projects and enhance, not just balance the sound. Thank you, You can teach an old dog new tricks!

one thing I've noticed for years, EQs show the numbers in the places where those ranges exist. That's pretty helpful, and when you put these elementary principles to what you know, this video helps even more. 23 years exp.

In these videos, they do one high pass on the eq and it already sounds better than my whole mix
Dude - this probably the best EQ vid I’ve seen since YT started. You’re articulate, you’re intelligent, you have great camera presence, you don’t curse like a sailor for no reason, and your content and Zen is solid. Very nice work, and thanks! 👍🎶

What a great video. Thank you Devvon!
Great video. It takes patience to sit through a 20 minute video when the concepts are completely new, but this was extremely helpful. My biggest takeaway was breaking up the EQ on a scale: low, low-mids, mids, high mids, high (and assigning hertz to each band and understanding impact of a cut or boost for each). The biggest challenge is understanding the vocabulary and application. Thanks!
Hello Devvon. Great tutorial as always:) Can you please make tutorial on Stereo Field and how to pan things around freqency spectrum + some basic rules? I feel like this is the topic not many producers talk about. It would really help me. Thank you!
