I love these pies. I’m from the south. My mother calls them egg pies or buttermilk pie. Make the same way except use eggs or buttermilk. That’s where the names come from. I like mines warm.

OMGosh! I remember when he was so little! Time is flying. I am adding this pie to my Christmas baking.

I have three favorite pies i make. 5. Pecan, peach, custard, Sugar cream pie, and butterscotch. 6. Coconut cream pie. No one around here makes good pie. I can't really have it right now but I'll get better again. Just takes time. A month ago I made a pecan pie. Probably best I've ever made. But sugar cream pie, WOW! I use brown sugar in my sugar cream pie but I used to make it with granulated and I'd brown my butter for added flavor.

I have made this same pie called a sugar cream pie and it was delicious!

I followed all the steps and it came out fantastic the first time. My stepdaughter was so excited about this pie!! She even made some comments that we better not eat any when she goes to her mom's house. Well next time she was here I made it again and I'm not sure what happened, but it did not thicken and ended up being a mess. I'm tempted to try it again, but worried because it didn't come out the second time. Not sure if something was wrong with the corn starch or if I didn't leave it on the stove top long enough.... It was so good the first time...

Thank you for sharing this recipe with us. I had never heard of such a pie before but made it late last night & this morning we had only 3 pieces left. Then after warming it for 15 secs in the microwave it was delicious with my hazelnut coffee!😋 However, now my husband is up & having some with his coffee as well. Which leaves him without another piece😟 for lunch.😬 Lol!

The sugar pie was so good using your recipe. Though I did have to alter it again as I couldn't find unsalted butter to save my life when I got ingredients. So I left the pinch of salt our and used the salted butter and it did the same thing. SO I was happy. also I accidentally got some of the melted butter and cinnamon sugar on the crest along with the filling. But the added crunch on the crust was actually really good. Sorry for the alterations when I was trying to recreate yours.

We call it galatopita in Greece (γαλατόπιτα) but its made with milk not cream and fyllo pastry.. Also some people add walnuts with cinnamon and sugar at the bottom.

Can you use almond milk as a substitute for heavy cream to make the pie?

Have you tried using lemon extract instead of vanilla? Oir buttermilk instead of milk?
