Our family called this dish Pignolata (pronounced: peen - you - LAH - dah). It is the same thing, but my mother always fried them to a darker brown and I think they were just a little smaller. This meant slightly more crunch to them. She then coated them in honey (you HAVE to use honey or it's not Pignolata) and after putting into individual small dishes she topped with finely shaved sweet chocolate and chopped pecan before the final dusting with sprinkles. You have to try it this way, it is to die for. I swear I was addicted to this dish when I was a kid .... for that matter I still am LOL.

I am an old man now but I remember vividly a Saturday morning shortly before Christmas when I was a child and my mother and my Aunt Agnes made, literally, a washtub full of this confection. They made it for several families in our clan. Those dear old ladies. They cooked five star restaurant meals for us every day and we didn't even know it. Maybe that's why I am at this website. The women you feature on these videos are the real thing - I wonder if your viewers have any idea of the pricelessness of the recipes these women share with you (and us) on this channel. These featured recipes would cost a fortune in a major restaurant and probably wouldn't be half as good ... it takes love ... love is the one ingredient no commercial enterprise can equal and I have known no other love in my life than the love these women can give, because they lived for their families. They were artists of food. Magnificent artists!
