How to Make Productivity More Fun
My main philosophy for being more productive is simply to have fun, even when you're doing the smaller boring tasks. Researcher Yu-kai Chou has figured out how to do this using the addictive frameworks games use to draw players in to hours of play.
He explains all the strategies in his book 'Actionable Gamification', which I break down in this video.

How to make boring things fun: 1. Finding meaning in what you do 2. Translate your work into accomplishments 3. Find creative ways to go about it 4. Shorten the feedback loops 5. Take ownership of your outcome, process and beliefs (more responsibilities; do it with others) 6. scarcity (make what you do about getting that little 'something' you really want) 7. unpredictability and curiosity 8. use fear of loss to achieve goals

As a developer, one of the things that helps make programming personal projects a lot more fun is heavily customizing my dev environment! It makes it so much more exciting to sit down and make something
I dont even play video games but now I feel like doing so because of the editing in this video!!! Ali has levelled UP
1. Progress bar 2. Finding solutions to problem 3. Quick feedback 4. Sense of ownership 5. Social analysis
Loved the editing Ali, really made watching the video fun. Gamifying tasks really seems to help out a lot, gonna start trying it, thanks a lot for the tips!
Hey Ali, another great video with so much value per minuet, I really noticed the production quality increase in this one and loved it 👍🏽
The video was great but what made is more interesting to watch was the editing. Absolutely loved it❣

Great content but i actually found the combination of falling backgrounds, animations and hand movements to be too overstimulating to watch and prefer the old style.

Disagree. Very distracting. Found myself losing focus because I was looking at the background and/or video game footage and having to re-wind to watch again.

Definitely a shift in editing style- there’s probably a happy medium between this new and old. A few extra flourishes would add important emphasis but this time was a little wild.
The Editing and video quality has increased a lot from the previous ones . Nice video, genuienly very helpful....
I completely agree with Ali's view that the main motivator behind doing something is finding the "epic" meaning or purpose in your life. I used this in my 10th grade and my grades sky-rocketed while I was genuinely enjoying the process. I used to envision myself as a highly successful person ( like Elon Musk or Newton) and my brain would automatically switch to "Deep-work" mode while naturally incorporating the other elements of gamification such as creativity, ownership etc
The production of this video is insane, genuily makes me wanna be better as a person. Congrats to Ali and the editor ❤🎉
Wow awesome editing. Your video quality is consistently increasing. That's what I like about your channel most
Ali , day by day , your editing skills are getting awesome
Very good tips and nicely presented, produced and edited 👌🏽
Props to the editor, this is really slick!
Love your content! This really makes sense to many aspects in our lives.
OMG, I LOVED THIS VIDEO, I LOVE UR PERSONALITY SHOWING THROUGHHHH
the editing of this video is the best I've seen so far on this channel
Lucid thoughts and the most engaging conversational tone. Nicely done.
Focusmate is exactly what I need. Thanks for that recommendation, I'm gonna try it this week!
Great advice Ali! Thank you so much💕
Loved the use of green screen in the video. Awesome as usual Ali!
Thank you for another great video! Good tips and the editing is so cool!
We agree! ✨
amaaazingggg old ali abdaaal is backkk enjoying ur content even more now days broooo good luck keep it up
I find using the self-reward system works often. For example, every week, I have target goals for the amount of homework modules, and other tasks. I want done every week.Like, last week, I said, to myself, if I finish editing this psychology assignment today than Saturday, I will give myself the day off from responsibilities.

Hi Ali - great video and advice everyone can benefit from!! Your so right - "some things we need to do are boring" - but thinking of ways to make it fun!! I like this! :)
Love the animations and graphics in your latest videos! Great content as usual!
Duolingo if you miss a day, is like that disappointed teacher when you do not do or forget your homework.

I want to give some other little tips which help me as a multitasking queen: -> Play games with boring parts. You will want to be productive during those parts. For example: Idle games, games with waiting parts, games with loading screens, etc. -> Use programs such as Scratch (you don't need to know programming) to make basic projects to pretend there's competition. Make an opponent, and make them gain points at a decent rate (so that it's hard but not impossible to score more than them). -> Digital flashcards are way better than physical when it comes to both gamification and tracking progress. -> Introduce novelty.
Video editor on point with this video.
Sorry bro can't stop liking your videos they r really useful for me I'm kinda lost but thanks again for making me to get my motivation back
I'm a fan of the video editor at this point.

Hi Ali first of all i've been watching you for awhile and you have completely changed my life for the better... I have a question i was thinking about reviewing books for a while now or even summaries to start on instagram as a part of my personal blog can you recommend me how to start and is it illegal to summarize and review books without the authors permission??
This is interesting and insightful!
this video is crazy edited wow
Thanks Sir!
Task management apps often have some type of gamification elements to them. Even just the colors and sorting functions can bring an element of enjoyment to tasks that might otherwise be obnoxious. I've found they've "leveled me up" very significantly.
It’s been 18 hours and you’ve achieved almost 50k views? Respect

As someone who loves what he does, that’s some high level bs. Doing the same thing as a hobby and work are completely different things. There are lot more rules and structures involved when you have to do something consistently everyday not to mentioned when your livelihood depends on it.

@@thesaurness2616 Ofc when you take something up as a profession, you're going to have to devote time to it, you have to learn discipline, you have to learn to adopt responsibility, you're going to have to realise that you gotta put in the work whether you like it or not. But I'd say, thats just growing up. I'd say you shouldnt want it any other way. Learning to adopt responsibility is a part of life, without which its really difficult to find meaning in anything. And I wouldnt want to call adopting that responsibility, work.
