How to Make Longevity Peach Buns (Birthday Bao)! 寿桃包

Longevity Peach Buns “Shou Tao Bao” 寿桃包 is a representation of Peaches of Immortality. It is typically served to elders on their birthday as a cake or gift that symbolises long life and wishes of good health.
In this recipe, I also will share a few tips to make this beautiful red bean paste.
The method is not only faster but also produces a fragrant and flavourful filling.
I hope that you enjoy the recipe.
LONGEVITY PEACH BUNS
Yield: 5 buns
Active time: 2 hours
Total time: 5 hours
Red Bean Paste:
60 g Red Bean
1/8 tsp Salt
1000 ml Water
40 g Granulated Sugar
10 g Vegetable Oil
5 g Glutinous Rice Flour
2 tbs Water
Buns Dough:
85 g Cold Milk
1/2 tsp Instant yeast
15 g Caster Sugar
150 g All Purpose Flour
4 g Vegetable Oil
Colouring:
Tea strainer
Toothbrush
2 tsp Water + 2 drops Pink food colouring (for the buns)
Green food colouring (for the leaves)
Steam the buns on medium high heat for about 10-12 minutes
*Note: After it's done, take it off from the heat (do not open the lid), let it rest for about 3 minutes in the steamer, then serve.

    Thank you so much for this recipe! My children became legal adults (where did the time go??), so I wanted to give them a proper food gift. I’m not artistic at all and don’t usually decorate my baked goods beyond the basics, so I was a little intimidated here.     My pleasure. After dip toothbrush to the colour mixture, make sure that you tap the brush on kitchen towel a few times to remove excess liquid so no water drips through the strainer; And remember when you brush it over the back of the strainer, do it gently in a circular motion.     The temperature where I live is 32 degrees Celsius, so I just place the buns in my counter top. If you live in cold place, yes you need to find a warm place for the proofing. Hope this helps.

    包子不用放在预热好的蒸炉上,放在室温下(盖上保鲜膜,以免变干。 发酵时间约为15-45分钟。 请注意,醒发时间取决于室温,如果你住在寒冷的地方,可能需要更长的时间,反之亦然,如果你住在炎热的地方,可能不需要那么长时间。 希望这可以帮助。

    I don’t recommend to use cold water because the chilled milk contributes to a tender texture, while the addition of yeast enables the dough to rise and become fluffy. Hope this helps.

    Roti dapat disimpan di lemari es selama 5 hari atau dibekukan selama sebulan. Saya sangat merekomendasikan untuk memanaskan kembali roti di Steamer; letakkan roti beku di atas piring. Letakkan piring di atas tatakan kaki tiga di dalam kukusan dan bıarkan kukus dengan api besar selama 10 menit atau hingga lembut. Jika Anda ingin menggunakan Microwave; letakkan roti beku di atas piring. Basahi handuk dapur yang masih baru; peras air berlebih, letakkan handuk di atas roti kukus dan microwave dengan api besar selama 30 detik. Tambahkan waktu sesuai kebutuhan. Semoga ini membantu.

    初めてのアンコ制作に戸惑い、時間がかかってしまった...味もまぁ、なんとか合格点といったところ.... 私のような初心者はアンコだけは買ってきて、あとはレシピ通りのほうがいいかも...作れた感動はするけど、本当に5時間以上はかかります....

    はい、できます。餡子の固さがボール状に丸めるのに十分な固さであることを確認してください。柔らかすぎるとバンズの形を整えるのが難しくなるからです。糸尾で買った餡がとろとろになっている場合は、中弱火にかけて余分な水分を飛ばし、巻いたときにしっかりとした固さになります。お役に立てれば。

    If you prefer to use soy milk, then you can replace it with liquid type of soy milk not powder. Hope this helps.

    شكرًا لك على إطرائك للحشو ، يمكنك استخدام معجون مونج أو هريس البطاطا الحلوة أو معجون الشوكولاتة فقط تأكد من أن أي حشو تستخدمه له قوام سميك يمكن تشكيله على شكل كرة لأنه إذا كانت الحشوة طرية جدًا ، فستواجه صعوبة في تشكيل الكعك على البخار آمل أن يساعدك هذا
