If you want some pops and bangs on your tune, you can't be on the stock downpipe. First you will fry your catalytic converter on your stock downpipe if you have pops and bangs on it. And secondly, you want the most sound from your pops and bangs. So any mufflers there will make the pops and bangs kinda useless :-) However, if you don't want that, then leaving the stock downpipe on is fine. My Audi S1 Sportback is stage 2 tuned with ALOT of pops and bangs. And the only thing i need to change on my full Milltek sport exhaust system before doing the inspection every 2 years is to change from my Milltek downpipe to the stock downpipe that has the catalytic converter and one muffler. The rest from the stock downpipe can be all Milltek. And that's enough for the car to pass the inspection.

I do kind of wish looking back I didn't get the Unitronic 200 cell catted downpipe on my mk7 Alltrack. Yes it did get me a bit of power with the matching Unitronic tune, and my state (Ohio) doesn't do emissions testing, but the exhaust smell really gets annoying sometimes.

Yup totally makes sense. It's a pain for so many people to have to flash back to stock every Year for inspection. Sometimes people want less invasive mods so I thought this was a good topic. Thanks for watching

With the IS38 turbo, are you using the APR IS20 stage 1 or some other APR stage 1 program?

On your video you show the APR Stage 3 tune, but that requires an exhaust (which I interpret to be a full exhaust).

It's not stage 1, it's a stage 3 oem downpipe file.

I realize this is an older video but im still considering a down pipe.... just not sure if i need it right now. My ride is a 2015 fully stock a3 v8. I when with the IE stage 2 w/ DSG tune first. I know its backwards in how i started this build but it is what it is.... any information is greatly appreciated.

Not really needed to still have a fast fun car. My S6 was stage 3 with RS7 turbos stock downpipe no issues.

I know this isnt the S6 ...but in your opinion what is the best upgrade to get more torque in the lower rpms for 2013 S6 ? Upgrade turbos ? Which one? Downpipes? Apr tune or ds1 tune? Thanks for your time

the 4.0TT already makes massive low end torque even on stock turbos. If you want quick responsive power down id remain stage 1. Most of the time these cars need new turbos anyways (the car is 10 years old now) so at that point its just more logical to get the larger RS7 sized turbos. What you don't want to do is put more stress on nearly blown, worn turbos with a tune. Make sure you have everything up to standards before tuning/adding more power. Downpipes are for max effort performance and sound. Not necessarily required. Definitely need a heat exchanger for any stage of tune. I like APR just because they have been around for a very long time and offer simple off the shelf tunes. DS1 would be the better choice if you have plans for more unique custom setups. They do have OTS tunes as well, but you can work with custom tuners if that is important to you. In fact most people get mad in the comments if one enthusiast suggests APR over DS1 but the problem is not everyone has the same intentions for more advanced setups (bigger turbos, different wastegates, E85, etc.) So all depends on your goals. When I did this build I was working for a shop that was an APR dealer so that was my most cost effective solution. I'll add I already did APR stage 3 on my A3 so just sticking with the same go to based on my experience. Thx for watching, lmk if you need anything else!

what is the difference between a APR DTR6054 and a IS38. Trying to make more power but not sure which way to go.

The APR is a superior option. Much better capabilities for better potential. If it had been avaliable back when I did mine I would have for sure gone with it over the IS38.
