How to Make Half Guard work against Wrestlers in BJJ

Спорт

Wrestlers who get into BJJ can often be the worst nightmare of a Guard focused player if that bottom player doesn't know how to work their game against the wrestler.
In this video I answer a BJJ related question that comes from a viewer on Instgram.
His question is about dealing with Wrestlers in a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competition that is coming up.
In this video I demonstrate my strategy to beating a Wrestler with Half Guard in Brazilian Jiujitsu.
As I show in the video, playing Half Guard can allow you the ability to get under the hips of the Wrestling based grappler to move them and throw them off their base.
That base of theirs is often the toughest part of their game and what keeps them on top of you like glue!
So if you're having a similar issue to Gui, then I hope this video is helpful to you and helps you should you find yourself up against a Wrestler in a BJJ tournament.
Thanks!

Hey Chewy, I got a question: if your instructor tells you as a white belt to roll with someone of a higher rank, is it okay to go 100 percent or will it make you look like being too ambitious and disrespectful? Hope you can answer this one. Thank you.

Well, as a guy whos been boxing for years and just started jiu jitsu, I use the same philosophy I did for sparring as I do now for rolling : Go as hard as they do .

You will learn the hardway that 100% will put you in bad spots if you dont have the tecnique. id never go 100% with my teammates during open mats or sparring time. learn to survive their attacks and practice your skills, have fun!

Mabey someone on here can help me. Possibly chewie, so I've wrestled all my life, I'm 17 and going into my senior year in highschool, but I started to get into jujutsu and boxing for about 4 weeks now, But my wrestling coach has worked with me for a very long time. And he knows me really well, and Im not argresive and I have very low confidence. But my boxing coach just doesn't understand. He yells and is very agressive in his coaching methods, I'm a kind of kid who doesn't respond very well with that because I'm timid, and shy but I work really hard. What do I do? Do I find a new gym? How do I handle this situation. Thanks guys. (By the way, I'm a successful wrestler, I'm just a low confidence off the Matt kid).

apallo knox sometimes that adversity your boxing coach is exposing you to can be a good thing. I generally feel like if something makes me uncomfortable (barring feeling physically threatened) I need to grow and generally if I continue to put myself in those situations they become easier and easier. No one likes to get yelled at but you can use the discomfort in other situations in life. Now if he is just yelling at you for absolutely no reason and you are giving it your all and using correct technique then he might just be a dick and in that case I might consider a new gym. I hope that helps and just remember yelling is not physical and will not hurt you. It's uncomfortable yes but push through it.

Imo, if the coach is aggressive with everyone, and I mean everyone, then it's probably just his style. He would be therefore unlikely to change and probably ineffective if he did. Then you have a choice. Either learn to enjoy aggressive coaching methods or find someone else who gets you a bit better. Observe him with others. In your position I'd give it a little longer, but if that's just the way he operates find somewhere else that works for you. Life's too short to train places that aren't fun or don't work.

I like half guard better than full guard for wrestlers. Making a general claim like that is a bad idea. There's no one size fits all approach for this stuff.
