Greek baklava is one of the tastiest desserts out there, but it can also seem like one of the more intimidating recipes to make at home. Don’t worry-Nicole breaks it down and makes it easy, showing you the secrets to working with phyllo dough and serving baklava with minimal stickiness. This dish is filled (literally) with lots to love-between layers of buttery phyllo pastry is a delicious nutty filling spiced with cinnamon, then soaked in homemade honey syrup.

No Greek pastry chef wastes time buttering phyllo that way. They dip the brush in the butter and sprinkle the leaves. The baklava still turns out great. The other thing is that the syrup and baklava need to be drastically opposite temperatures, otherwise it turns to mush. Make the syrup first and let it cook on the counter while you prepare the baklava, then put they syrup in the fridge to get cold while the baklava is in the oven. Spoon the very cold syrup onto the very hot baklava. Or you can cool your baklava in the fridge and then make the syrup and spoon it on. You can also substitute the butter with olive oil.

So you can make baklava, refrigerate it, and then just pour hot syrup and it’s just as good?

Thank you. I was looking for this tip in many videos cause mine turned soft once. Surprised why nobody mentions such important tip.
My grandmother was from the Canary Islands. I used to make this recipe 50 years ago. Love it.
I've made Baklava and Tiramisu for my son's wedding. I did not find my recipe so I looked online and watched several KZreads. I liked yours the best. It was closest to the one I had made before and i enjoyed listening to you. Great job!
Love this recipe! It is so yummy! Thank you for sharing with us.
Looks so good! I'm going to try this. Thanks for sharing!
This looks so good 😋I'm going to make it for mother's day. Thank you!
My friend is Armenian and makes Baklava this same way. I have watched her make it many times! Great recipe!
You did really great. I haven't eat Greek baklava yet but I ate Turkish baklava and really love it.
Love this recipe a must try to make very soon,I have eaten this from Greek cake shops in Melbourne in the 80,s
I had a friend from Turkey who had Baklava sent from his mother. It was so good!

Looking forward to making this with my girls. THANK 😊 YOU
I've never made baklava as I have always imagined it would be the most fiddliest and intricate recipe and process. So my ears pricked up when I saw you were cooking it and the video was only a few minutes! I can't wait to give this a try now that I know it's not as co.plicated as I imagined. Thanks for sharing your great tips and recipes.
My favorite dessert 😋
My favorite!!😀
Just tried it w/ coconut oil instead of butter bc I needed it to be heart healthier for an event...it works! You just gotta put it on the upper middle rack and cut the bake time by 10ish minutes. You could even make it vegan w/ maple syrup instead of honey. ❤
So fun, informative and very clear instructions. Haven’t tasted it yet. It just came out of the oven.😊
It is so delicious ❤️👌
Thank you
Made this today and it's the best recipe I ever made!!! My previous recipe always had sugar in the nut mix but I found it too sweet, so I tried it with only sweet was the syrup. It is fantastic! Thank you so much.
I’ll def make this
Wow this looks delicious I used to serve this in the deli I worked at and it didn't look too hard so I think I'm going to give it a try
Looking forward to trying this, used to get baklava from a gyros shop run by a Greek family in the small town where I used to live, and it was like homemade… so I rarely like it any where else. 🙏❤️
I brought the filo pastry and this is the first recipe that I opened and liked a lot. Hope mine will be as yummy as yours In Sha Allah 🙂
Excellent
I once volunteered at the Greek Festival here in New Orleans and all day made pans and pans of baklava with the local Yaya’s.
Great Baklava
That looks good! You just kicked me um...to the delish zone! Yummy, yum! Waving to you from south Georgia-land of best Peaches, boiled Peanuts, & Vidalia onions! 🥘🍲🦞🥧🌭🌮🍕🍟🫔🍿🥗🦐🍝🍠☕🫖🗽🚑🚒🚓
"Minutes later" Haha love your sense of humor. This looks amazing! Will definitely try this recipe!
Wow it looks so delicious, I can’t wait to cook it for my family. Thanks for sharing ❤️
I love Baklava where ever it comes from, it's all so very good! And I'm going to make some Baklava, just one question, can you mix chopped up dates and walnuts for the filling or just walnuts? Thank you.
I’ll be making this for the first time for Christmas 🎄 I can’t wait Love Baklava
_Minutes later...._ 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 Beautiful. I keep meaning to try baklava but never do ☹️
this is so interesting. The Greeks had not change the name of a dish they stole and used it as it was. Normally, I expected them to change the name to baklavoidis or baklavopoulos like they always do :). (example: lokma-- loukoumádes. lokma is a Turkish word using for food eaten at once).
I know how to make baklava, but got a couple of valuable tips here. Plus, I just enjoy listening to her😄
Could you use maple syrup, instead of the honey?
Regardless, it looks like the Greek baklava i grew up with & served in the deli i worked in. And i am sure anything this chick cooks is good!, thank you again for your amazing recipes!!! 🙏
A little tip . You don't need to butter every layer. Just build your layers then cut the pieces then add butter on top will seep through while baking
My favorite sweet treat. I really want to try to make this. Thank you 😊
Hi loved your baklava can you make a Pavlova please
Doesn't matter to me if it is Greek or Turkish, it looks great and pretty easy to make. Love it!
👍🏻👍🏻
I was told you never put hot syrup on warm baklava, or putCold on Cold. Takes away the crunch of the Phyllo makes it a soggy.
Can I put 5or 6 cloves in the syrup? Or a clove in each piece?
❤
Can we have some Thai reciepes This looks delicious YUM
I made the Baklava it came out great everyone loved it, I didn’t put it in the fridge but it was still a little soft, I did cover it. What can I do to keep it from getting soft? Or is it suppose to be?

No honey in syrup and use rose water or orange blossom water. Very good, altho I'm partial to the Greek Baklava myself
I enjoyed watching the video thank you it was very easy to make . I red some comments before making it I was annoyed by some comments stating and complaining about this not being Greek ! Turkish who cares about the authenticity of the dish ! You make it if it’s good than you are grateful for the recipe if you want authentic than go look in your great grandmother’s recipe book . Your recipe was simple easy to follow I have never made baklava before , I looked up others recipe and I just reduced the water to 3/4 cup and I added 3 table spoon of lemon juice it was out if this world !!!! It’s the best baklava I have ever tasted . Thank you again 😊😊😊😊
For 1.8 m subscribers I’m surprised your calling it Greek baklava? I believe history says it’s Turkish ,great work
Ο μπακλαβάς με το τσάι είναι νόστιμος!
my afghan friends use pistachios
Greek Baklava is my fave!
I have tips…. Drip butter on each layer do not brush. And phyllo, butter, phyllo, butter, walnuts. Also water is bad on the layers inside. No water inside. Oh and clarified butter because we don’t want water. Top phyllo gets a little water to crisp
I like this Turkish recipe.

You ever notice people in USA never put things on things? They're always putting things over things. They put pots over a stove, they pour syrup over baklava, they put gravy over rice. The rest of the world puts pots on stoves and pours syrup onto baklava and puts gravy on rice, but people in USA have mastered the art of levitation, or something.
