How to make Golden Powder

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I show you how to make a CLEAN burning Black Powder Substitute. It's fast and easy to make and it's called Golden Powder.

How did you determine how much water to use? What size mesh did you use to sort rifle-sized powder from pistol-sized? Thanks.

I only used enough to get the material slushy and not enough to dissolve it all. You can add more water and it won't hurt anything, it will just take longer so add a little at a time. I have some screens from Amazon that I use for all my muzzle loading home made powder. I don't recall the exact size but I have several that stack.

Note to self, if you try this, get a pan you'll only use for this. Can't wait to see how it works in a gun.

That's always a good idea, however these chemicals are non-toxic and the clean up wasn't bad after heating water in the pan.

For sure this will work in a musket and cartridge. Not like pucked and dried black but I'd say it appears to be slightly faster than Pyrodex. I'm looking into this. If golden powder proves to be as good as Pyrodex, it will revolutionize the BP hobby. No more waiting for a ball mill, messing with all that nasty dirty charcoal, and no more pucking! It will be interesting to know how this propellant even works. We may have a whole new ball game here. I should have guessed, I just spent a bunch of money on a new press and die setup.

There's a lot of research currently going into this method. Adding Red Iron Oxide is supposed to make it much more powerful but it's harder to tell when it's ready since there's no color change. I'd like to hear about your experience so please check back.

@@SuperSneakySteve I see this process has been around a long time. It has a very interesting background. It seems odd to me that there aren't more videos on the actual use of golden powder. With the right sources the ingredients are cheaper than traditional BP.

From what I see, if you load this stuff in a gun of some sort, you may be the first to do so in a video. I've hunted all over the web and can't find even one video on shooting with golden or white.

"I Never KNEW!" thanks! THANK YOU, Sr! I just finished candy fuel in water for nitrating my paper for DIY paper cartridges, TOO DIRTY hard deposits at my first review, looks like a dead end. I have lab grade Ascorbic from OJT, Why Not try on my next papers? or? different Wabbit, different season. THANKS AGAIN! BIG Thank YOU SIR! May We Have Another? Keep your Smoke Poles SMOKING!

Use saltpeter dissolved in a little water and soak your paper in this then dry. This is how Civil War nitrated cartridge paper was made. It won't work right if you add anything more and you might set fire to the woods if you use paper with sugar in it as the paper is more likely to blow out of the gun before fully consumed (if you can get the gun to go off).

did standard nitrated paper lots of times, all types of natural paper, regular un nitrated paper ends up working better for "Me" I just need to pay Atten if an Un burnt scrap stayed over my nipples vent hole on rounds after #1 mostly in cylinders, not long arms, as I use the paper over my charge on longs. "I Will" never know till "I Try?" If I could test in my yard? it would be finished@@deandeann1541 Dragon and

best tip for golden powder is to not cook it, it breaks down the ascorbic acid

Very slow stuff compared to bp. Works in rifles but pitiful in pistols.

Why do you even need a golden color? Just boil off excess water - shouldn't you be good?

Best performance is achieved when it's gold in color. I couldn't tell you why, but it is a fact.

With rocket candy, often powdered rust is added to make it burn quite a bit faster - the iron oxide is a catalyst, only a bit is needed. Maybe the same thing is going on with whatever creates the golden color - I would bet on it actually. I bit it burns too slow to be very effective if it is left white. This makes me wonder what it would work like if iron oxide is added to the golden powder - maybe no one has tried it, even though it is easy to do. There have been bp substitutes sold that were based on vitamin C, I think they were made similarly to how you make this but maybe they were spiked with a bit of potassium chlorate or perchlorate - these subs worked good in rifles but were too slow for pistols (but would work in a pinch if you were happy with 500 fps). They were extremely clean burning though, and some people really liked them because of this.@@SuperSneakySteve

The whole reason I wanted to make golden powder was so I could make crimson powder. As you said it needs 1.8% iron oxide and 1.8% carbon added. Once added there is no color indicator so it's harder to make, but I think I can do it now. More videos to come. Screened powder is not hard for me to make so I'll have to see if this stuff has enough added benefit.@@deandeann1541
