Simply genius. Suggestion : add a spring loaded switch under the pressing arm such that when you bring it down it automatically presses the switch and table on and when you lift it it turns off.

Sorry to say but business models don’t make boatload of money selling this. There are obviously many genius products and effective but where do you see them being sold? I am a designer and I like this guy did a really good job. Only benefit I see of this machine in rural areas to support women and women create papad,etc business. Even they will buy only if it’s cheaper.

The level of enthusiasm for this product in the comments is a kind of validation and also suggests a potential marketing path. Coming to the specifics of the design, it solves the difficult problem of turning a ball of very viscous, very sticky, slightly elastic, dough into a thin lamina, cleanly. It has been done at industrial scale based on commercially sold roti, but not at a household appliance level. You can look at the comments section on e-commerce sites to see how well roti-presses work (or not). Rotimatics are available, but cost upward of Rs. 70,000. They do more, but the hardest part of making a roti is the pressing and a HUGE number of Indian households make roti daily. Sure this needs a little more work in terms of packaging and interface design to upsell it, but I would gladly buy it as it is so long as it has some basic certifications. I won't write any more but CK Prahlad's book, Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid is relevant to this discussion.

Nice Can add a scrap fridge light switch so that motor starts when lever is lowered stops when raised .or any other mechanism...

One suggestion. If the motor can be started with the press of handle, it would be super easy. You will need a push button to be installed near the hinge/bolt where the handle pivots.

Taking inspiration from this I converted my wet grinder into a roti maker by attaching to it frame with two rollers and a chapatti rolling disc in the mouth of grinder jar. It works fine ,saves time .Its fantastic for rolling poories.Many thanks for the idea. My improvisation saved making of the whole wooden infacture and a motor.

Thanks for the video! For me this seems to be the best approach to simplify the process, however the use of the plastic sheets which are a must in this case; seems not so user friendly. Just my humble opinion! But it's very practical to peel off the chapati! Some suggestions: 1. The roller or baylon should have a slight taper from centre to the bearing ends, maximum diameter at the centre. This is called crowning in the industry to keep things positively centred and not depending on chance. So builders will not get frustrated. 2. The sprocket wheel looks dangerous because it could hurt youngsters experimenting in a hurry. Use some other coupling device. 3. Using the polpat was so practical. Happy new year!

Instead of red switch add a actuator switch with the handle so when the handle is pushed down the motor start rotating.

Industrial papad making machine like this are already available .It is a very effort to make one for domestic use . If we divide roti making process in 3 steps i e 1 .Atta gunthna 2 . Roti belna 3 . Roti shakna then the most time taking and tiring is roti belna . For atta making we already have manual atta maker . This device if produced for keeping domestic use in mind ,will be very popular . Hope the gentleman here is already working on it .Great job to make a prototype .👍💐🎁🍫

Also, if possible to make with PVC the whole thing instead of wood,. It would be lighter and easier to clean and healthier (bacteria free). Please advise how we can order. Wood cutting boards can be cleaned and sterilized by scrubbing them it soapy water with a little Clorox added. This was done it many kitchens I’ve worked in. Never had a problem with bacteria.

This roti maker is good and made standard machined parts with gear motor takes full load, and works excellent. Thanks a lot to the designer. 👌Add maida flour on the turn table.
